I want to be a vegan, or at least a vegetarian... but I need support. I am not friends with any vegetarians, and my parents buy a lot of meat. I am off to college in the fall, and the school does have a selection of meat-less foods. ( I just got back from orientation, the selection was pretty good ) I am also a college athlete, and I do need a lot protein in my diet. Is it safe to just suddenly stop eating meat... or do I ease into it gradually? Could anyone help me come up with a diet plan? I attempted being a vegetarian 3 years ago but I got sick all the time...Please help me, I am very very passionate about animals and their safety, and I really need help with this. Thank you!
Welcome, and feel free to ask questions anytime! that's what we're here for As for protein, don't worry about it. You will get more then enough protein from plant sources. My advice would be to not jump straight into veganism - you'll need to learn how to cook things first, or you'll go hungry! You can't just omit meat and eat side salads for the rest of your life! it takes a while to change eating habits. also just spend some time deciding what is best for yourself. It will be hard if no one around you is veg*n too but, however tempting it is, do not stir people up about it... u dont want to cause family feuds over the issue! People will try to talk you out of it and they will do all sorts of low and disgusting things to make you change your mind... but u can be stronger than them! otherwise, have fun with it! buy books and google everything you can think of! Hello I went cold turkey (or rather cold tofu) and suffered no ill effects. Then again I don't train. Do a google search on 'vegan athletes' there are several and you should be able to find some useful tips for diet ideas.
