Every Day, Always Have, Always Will, I Don't Think People Realise How Many Doors Can Be Opened By Simple Politeness.... :daisy: Cheers Glen.
i tend to avoid situations where i have to ask for anything, but i do try to thank people every chance i get.
I don't use please a lot...it seems like begging, but with people I'm close to I might use humorously. I might overuse Thank you...but I do love showing my appreciation. It bothers me when other people thank me as much as I thank them though.
I am a constant sayer of thank you...may forget the pleases at times, though... Oh, please, pretty please with sugar on top..... Feels sort of like begging, but it is the way to use the word please, I guess. Tone of voice kind of needed with pleases.... My etiquette is impeccable with people I know, though.
I use "please" very seldom. I rarely say "thank you," but will say "thanks." Politeness confuses me, because it's hard for me to tell when the proper time for politeness is. At what point is politeness just patronizing? Does politeness call for an atmosphere of formalcy that, at times, can ruin the mood? I find meal time very difficult.
Emily Post wrote a book about common etiquette.... If you are sitting down to dinner with someone else who prepared it for you and they ask you would you like more of something...It would either be yes, please...or no, thank you..... The closer you are with someone....formalacy can kind of vanish a bit more...but I will always say thank you to anyone close or not who did something for me or went out of their way for me in any way..... It is an art, just like everything....I know when I am being patronized and when someone is just polite...there is a differecne.....patronizing, I cannot take either.....nor will I do that to someone else....
oops.....went to edit something and wound up quoting myself ..... the closer you are to someone....formalacy disappears pretty much altogether is what i wanted to edit.
i'm basically in management; i'm not sure how i could avoid saying those phrases unless i was one of those dicks that just yells at people to do stuff and then berates them for it.
I Thought This Thread Was All About "Please & Thank You" Not About Saying "Hail Marys"...... Cheers Glen.
