I have been using Limewire Pro for a long time and it just seems that lately the files are corrupt or in a foreign language and not listed as such. Too many walk -in cams in the theater etc.-So' I was checking out Trusty Files and that site is so slow I could be using dial-up and go faster on Limewire-Terrible program that needs work-IMO-So I tried installing and running Bit Torrent and it loaded fine and looks great. Very professional with no ads!-I really don't think I know how to use it though as I entered about 10 different video names that are real popular and should be available but I only found one and it only downloaded about 10mbs of the trailer-I read the instructions but I maybe doing something wrong as I cannot find any files to download.-Any help would be appreciated or if you know a good step by step tuturial I'd appreciate it--feel free to email or pm me-if it's long-Thanks

    http://www.mininova.org/

go there to find torrents to download.

    the way torrents work:

lets say you want to download a movie named 'movie1.mpg'

    * first, you download a small file that contains information about movie1.mpg called a 'torrent'. torrents can be downloaded from places like mininova. this file may tell your computer where to download the file from or how big the file is, etc.

    * you open the small torrent file with a torrent program, like Bittorrent. Bittorent downloads the file movie1.mpg.

    * wait until the file is completed downloading (100%, seeding)

    * now you can close Bittorrent and open your file movie1.mpg.

some other useful info is just learning the terms.
leacher: anyone who is downloading the file but has not completed the download
seeder: anyone who has downloaded a file completely and the download is 100% fifnished. these people will continue to upload their file to leachers.

try not to open your torrent while it is downloading or while Bittorent is running if you are still uploading/downloading it. it may cause errors in your file or others who are trying to download it. it is not good to have two programs accessing one file anyway.

    hope it helps.

by the way, mininova torrents are usually faster than others. more people download them so it will probably be uninterupted too.

    http://www.mininova.org/

download the small torrent file from there and open it with bittorent.

a web browser can be set to automatically 'open with' any torrent file.

Thanks Adderall-After posting that yesterday I found a program called U-Torrent-I entered some names and it sent me to a source page with lots of files!-I have about 8 downloads going now. Is that a mininova?-When I used BitTorrent I found nothing but with U Torrent I have it working-I do have lots of files to share.By including the location of my files' will this allow others to access them' like Limewire?-I like the way it shows how long in days and minutes until completetion. Much more files then Limewire!

The best way to find torrents is by searching for them on a torrent site, rather than using the Bittorrent program's search function. That way you have a much larger selection of downloads and you can use your Bittorrent program to download them from the website. Some good torrent sites are: www.torrentspy.com, www.thepiratebay.org, and www.mininova.org.

yes, torrents can be downloaded from anywhere.

you use a web browser to download a torrent and a bittorrent program to download the file.

remember that a torrent is just a small file that contains info about the file you want to download. just copy-paste this URL into your web browser address bar: " http://www.mininova.org/ ". just go to that web page there and do a search. you will then download the torrent you like and it should automatically give you the option to 'open with' a bittorrent program.

use the mininova web site. it is probably the largest collection of torrents available. you can use any website you like but just try mininova.

    :)

OK-Thanks you guys-I found the mini nova site a couple days ago and started downloading the torrents. Their going super slow. Is that about right ?-I have good connection and tested the tcp-Does it usually take 3 or 4 days to get a complete file downloaded?-I like the amount of files and the way it's set up alot. Good system. My ports are open so I suppose I'm sharing files as well-Thanks for your help-

the download speed is completely dependant on 3 things:

    1. your download speed

    2. peer upload speed

    3. how many peers are you downloading from

with torrents, look for the torrents with lots of seeders and leechers but try not to download anything that has no seeders. the more peers you have, the faster the torrent download. i get speeds anywhere from 1,000k/s to 1k/s. it all depends on the three factors.

if you want to help others like you, keep your torrents open and running for a while after they are finished. you can see your seed ratio in the torrent program somewhere. by doing this, you will be returning the favor to others that has been allocated to you.

OK-Thanks Adderall-I think my normal download speed is good as I can download about 6 mp3 files in 30 sec. on Limewire-I have an AMD 64-Athlon 3000-w/1 gb ram-and 350 gbs-HD-(2)-I'm only using maybe 25% of the HD's-now-It may be slowing things down because I am downloading from Limewire at the same time as from U Torrent-I have been doing like you said and just letting it run 24-7-until they are complete-Some say 4 days till their done-which is ok-I'm used to the waiting' but I wonder if I may be overloading the ram by running both programs and downloading from both-Could there be a conflict between the two?

you have a nice computer and as long as it is free of malicious software you shouldnt have a problem there.

Limewire and Bittorents may conflict. your network could be a bottle neck. you can only download 256k/s (where in fact you may get more or less; example). if limewire is using up 230k, that leaves bittorent with about 26k to use; or vise versa.

also, your download rate is proportional to your upload rate. every bit of data sent to your computer must be confirmed by the sender. that means your computer needs to upload a small file that acknoleges that you recieved a small piece of data. with 256k download speed, you may only have 25k upload speed. that means you cannot download more than a proportional amount at one time because your network cannot respond fast enough... hope that makes sense.

also try to check what the settings on you Utorrent/Bittorrent program are. if you are on high speed Internet, you can turn the download rate up to 256k or maybe more. you should put the upload rate at 20k to start and if it doesnt slow your Internet down you can turn it up more as you like.

hope that makes sense. check settings and there are many tutorials on the web on how to make torrents download faster. google "increase torrent speed" or something.

The downloads seem to be picking up speed as I leave it running day and night and the files are getting finished faster. Also' I pretty much shut down Limewire ' that probably helped. With this system I can read the name and alot of information on the file before downloading it. On Limewire' there's alot of things there are mislabeled and in French or some other language and they don't say so. It could be done deliberatly' as the files used to be alot better. Now it's a crap shoot as to what you end up with. Question Adderall-I use 1 Click DVD as well as Convert X to DVD for converting. I'm kind of assuming these all need conversion still right? Also-How long is a fair amount of time to leave the large files for others-? Whats the unspoken rule on that as far as the sharing aspect goes?-thanks Rob

as for sharing, there is no set time because file sizes are different and download speeds change. you can find somewhere that says your ratio or share ratio. it is basically how many times you have uploaded the file to others. if it says 1.35, you have uploaded the file 1.35 times to others. i like mine to be around 1.0 but 0.8 is respectable. i just about a bittorrent server here.

A big percentage of files on Limewire are full of malicious software. I would recommend you torrent files rather than use Limewire.

very true. i didnt want to say it though.

usually, if you download a file (via Kazaa, Limewire, etc) and you notice wierd charecters in the filename or desciption, that means it contains some kind of malicious software. also, if you download something (audio, video) from one of those networks and it makes: (wierd noises, distortion, static, messy video frames, etc), it has something malicious inserted into it. this wierd 'distortion' may only occure for a second in the file, but that is all the time it needs to do something bad.

sometimes it can happen from a bad download, BUT i can say that i have never had a bad download from a torrent. So why is it only files from (Kazaa, Limewire, etc) would have problems? because it was not a bad download. you downloaded the file correctly, it just has some malicious piece of code in it.

    ÂĝēƈnjǮḄƄ

if you see wierd stuff like that^ then just delete it. dont play it on your computer.

OK-Thanks guys-As a matter of fact in just the last 6 months the files there have gotten real bad with alot of distortion and bad sound etc.-Big waste of time-OK-Now I have a new little problem-I use Convert X to DVD and normally it works great but the last 3 files I got from Torrent have not be able to be converted-It dosen't say what the problem is just that they cannot be converted-I've had this happen before with Limewire files a few times but never 3 in a row-Is there any file format on Torrent that cannot be converted.? Convert X is supposed to handle any formats I thoughts-Also-On the Mini Nova next to some files is a little red I-is that IPOD?-Maybe I downloaded that?-I don't know-Other than that I am really digging this new one-I would have to say that Torrent Rocks-Limewire is all done!-No quality control over there-I may ask for a refund from them-Also-The files in question will burn to disk just fine-but won't play because they aren't converted-any ideas?-thanks

yes. can you play the files on your computer strait from the hard drive?

    what file type (codecs)?

it is very imprtant to learn what codecs you are dealing with before determining why something wont play. the 2 major extesions on torrents are '.Xvid' and '.avi'. you may recieve something in '.rar' format and need to unzip it before playing it.

it may be as simple as, your DVD played cannot play the specific kind of file (codec; fyi, codec stands fo COmpression DECompresion). if you burn a '.avi' file to disc but your DVD player does not play '.avi' files then it wont play it. simple as that. try watching on your computer first and tell me if it works.

i hope Convert X is not trying to advertise that they convert any file type because i dont think any program out there will actually do ANY. although some can do most, they cannot do ALL. btw, your DVD is limited as to what codecs it can play. unless otherwise specified, it will probably just play DVD (Mpeg-2) and VCD. maybe some few forms of Mpeg. if the probably say somewhere on the box or manaul if it plays things like Xvid, Divx, OGM, etc.

Alright Adderall-I havent previewed any of the three-I'll try that today-It does look like they are XVID -On Limewire I was getting manily the mpg and AVI-Convert X should work on XVID shouln't it? Yea I don't think they actually say they can convert everything to DVD-I'll read up on it as that file type I don't think I've messed with it-I always had Limewire set to the more common MPG and AVI-If they won't convert that who else does a good simple job of doing it-I don't need the burner part-I have 1 Click for that if I need it-My player is a low end Pioneer-it's a DVR but it's limited to the files it'll playback-It won't playback mp3s at all-only audio cds-and DVDs-Pioneer does have an expensive one that'll play all formats but it's alot more bucks. I'm going to look for a DVD player that plays all formats-I don't need the recording part as I don't record tv-what for?-How many times can ya watch this guy Jamia or whatever on Idol sneak past the judges! lol-what a joke-anyway-I'll check that out and let ya know if it will play on my pc-If so I have a 19" screen so it's like a small tv anyway-It would be nice to get a player that elimanates conversion alltogether-Do you know of any that are decent and not too much?

The two I'm having problems with are XVID AND DAA-The XVID will play on Windows MP but will not convert-The Daa won't even play on the Media Player-I may just have to pick more carefully based on the extensions-or find another DVD player that plays em all-They should just have a universal code for these things-but then that would make it oo easy-I don't why VSO (Convert X To DVD) and LG software(1 Click DVD Copy Pro) don't just merge-Lg gives ya Copy To DVD with the purchase of 1Click anyway-It would be nice to have it all under one roof and 1 button does it all-I am really getting lazy (er) in my "golden years"-Hey-I did notice another bonus to the Bit Torrent system-Whole albums instead of single cuts-thats great-Winmx was good for that till they folded-So-unless I can find something can convert these type files I'll watch em on the puter-thanks you guys!

Thanks Dirk-I just checked the version and it's the latest-I don't know on the codec. I have never updated any codecs for this-I went ahead and put the Win MP11 on here-I wonder if it has limitations that MP10 did not have-I was told that Vista has extra security on the file burning-when I tried one of those with MP11 itsaid it did not recognize the codec for it-I never had that happen with MP10-So I may need to update those for the player to be able to playback the files but how do I convert the thing for my DVD player-? Power ISO is just a media player right?--
