I would really like to post some poems here but I am afraid that someone will steal them and pass them off as their own. I'll see them 5 years from now in some obscure literary journal with someone else's name below them. Don't you guys have that same fear?

Yep, it's mainly why I don't put things up. That and I don't really want strangers to read them.

I don't fear it for a few reasons. I wouldn't think my stuff was good enough to be published and if I did see them copied and passed off somewhere else down the road then I would just feel flattered and satisfied...If you write good enough for someone to want to steal them and pass them off as their own then you can always come up with new material.

Chances are, you're not good enough to warrant plagiarism. Reality check. :)

Nothing is worth anything unless it is shared. There is enough in this world to go around.

I put a lot of time into my poems. Sure, it would be flattering but all my hard work would go down the drain. Its not even like I want the credit; if I ever do publish anything it will probably be under a pseudenym. I just don't want someone else taking the credit for something that took me hours upon hours to perfect.

you're absolutely right about that. I do share my work with my friends and family constantly. They're probably sick of it by now, which is kind of why I want to post something on here haha. I think that just convinced me.

I think your fear is not rational and in fact you would be safe posting here. Go ahead, post a sample, just one. You can afford the risk can't you?

The only way to completely avoid the possibility of plagiarism is to hide your work. Surely, even books can be plagiarized from.

Hell, I heard the backing music from Percy Sledge's When a Man Loves a Woman on a 20s-40s channel.

It's highly unlikely that A) your work is good enough to be published and B) someone is willing to steal it and go through the rigorous process of getting it published.
So you can choose to share or not share. One option leads to growth, the other, nothing.

I reckon my words are good enough to be stolen. :)

That's why I post them. And not just in the poetry section lol

It's the sincerest form of flattery...;)

Some of us say "Save the last light of day"
Fewer still quietly think "Soon the deep night I'll drink"
And one, funbegun, simply laughs with the sun :)

I have this fear with scripts and stuff I've written. I want to get opinions on them, but am so worried they'll be stolen. Also, I've had artwork stolen before after posting it online. Eventually I was given credit after a bunch of people recognized it and complained, but... A startling experience, for sure.
