good source for finding new bands but since they failed to place andrew birds new cd in their 50 best cds of 2005 list i will consider them evil! at least they had the new pornographers on there though.

he should have replaced sufjan stevens for everyones #1 pick...i just dont get the hype of that cd...everywhere i look sufjans cd is #1...i dont see the greatness...alot of it seems really cheesy to me...where andrew birds cd is amazing...im not really even a fan of his other stuff but i think this cd is one everyone should experience as soon as possible.

I think Sufjan Stevens deserves all the accolades he's been given. Illinoise is just an album of very pretty music, done very well.

To be honest, Pitchfork isn't that great at all. Anything reminscent of the Beatles automatically skyrockets a band into the top 50 albums of the year. (Maybe I'll be attacked, but I think Clientele's pretty bland.)

It can get pretty annoying how they also seem to ignore Saddle-Creek, too. I really wasn't sure why Bright Eyes wasn't one of the best albums of the year. I'm also somewhat shocked Andrew Bird didn't make it up their either. Or Rogue Wave. But hey, that's just me.

I wouldn't disagree with Sufjan Stevens cd being one of the best, either...But I always thought Seven Swans was his master-piece.

Pitchfork is good for one thing, and that's the sheer amount of bands they talk about. I read it to find the names of bands, then go find the bands and see what I think about them. I don't read a word they say because it's far too literary and intense to actually get an idea about the band. It's almost like they're writing biochemistry term papers about albums. I suppose it caters to a specific crowd, but not me.
