    What's your experience with either?

Actually this is a show on Animal Planet and I am really loving it. It's about a really awesome rescue in Louisiana they employee parolees to help rescue dogs and run the rescue.

It's a really sweet show. I could see myself volunteering with an organization like that when I have some time. If I'm on vacation I like to volunteer if I'm not busy working. I recommend this show, it reminds me of some really cool people I used to know too.

My experience with pitbulls is really good. I love animals in general and I've had a lot of good experiences with big dogs or dogs people are usually afraid of. This is really inspiring and interesting, but also really sad sometimes.

I've watched two episodes so far and I think I'm hooked. I haven't been hooked on a TV show in a long time.

I would enjoy working with dogs that have been rescued. Their is no place in or near my area where I could.

I love dogs, I wish they all had a good home, if not a friend to play with for a few hours each day.

There is a programme here in NZ for prisoners to help train ex greyhound racing dogs to become family pets. It creates a feeling of self worth for the prisoners and helps get the dogs into homes. A very worthy cause. :)

We had one in the house when I had a baby. We've also had bigger, tougher dogs around her. They are protectors.

well pits are like any other dog that its been popular to abuse to make mean.
when i was little it was g-sheps, then it was dobies, then it was rotties, then it was pits.

as for parolees, i've heard people talking on the buss about having to make appointments with their parole officers, but that's about it.

back to the dogs. how any dog acts is a result of how they are raised and how they have been treated. that's the whole law and the profits.

I don't like them either. But it's not really what this thread is about. It's about people in bad situations having a opportunity to do something constructive that's not just for themselves, which can create a real feeling of self-worth.

Even I can see the real value in that, and I am so NOT a dog person.

Pit bulls are dangerous animals. I don't care how loving and loyal they are to their owners, they are simply too unpredictable, and I would never trust them around my kids if I had them. There have been many pit bulls that have been loving and loyal, then suddenly, for no apparent reason, "snapped" and mauled toddlers and babies to death.

I suppose you could say any dog has the chance of being unpredictable, but there is a big difference in the damage sustained by a golden retriever bite or lab bite, as opposed to one from a pit bull, which has crushing bite pressure and the ability to cause serious injury.

I know pit bulls have been given a bad rap because of thugs and gangbangers, which is unfortunate, but I feel that, in spite of that, because of these dogs' breeding history, they are simply too dangerous to have around.

If I saw an unleashed pit bull on the street, I would be very much afraid. Let's face it, these dogs have been bred to be killers, and the fact that they're sought after by so many morons and wannabes only makes matters that much worse.

I was about to write something about pitbulls, but you summed it up pretty well.

Tia Torres is quite a woman. I've been corresponding with her since 09, and keep offering to go over there and do some welding or automotive work. I have monthly donation set up to Villalobos. What they do is so incredible and selfless I urge anyone to donate, even if it's just 5 or 10 bucks a month.

This post is so full of ignorance, but you can keep your opinions I don't really give a shit.

Either way it's quite obvious to a dog person and someone well experienced in handling pit bulls.. that no dog is unpredictable. There are ALWAYS warning signs and indicators before a dog is aggressive.

Also, pit bulls were bred to be non aggressive and friendly to humans.

pressed has never owned a dog from birth to death.

he would be better off owning a painting that collects dust.

    same with the witch.

Not in the last 20 years. Perhaps I should have said recent breeding history.

Thank you soooo much! They DON'T just snap. Know your dog you won't have a problem. They're not robots they're a helluva lot like humans. Humans don't "just snap" either.

Also...that show is so amazingly inspiring, I want to go there just to volunteer. I could tell that woman has a heart of gold. It's really awesome the relationship within the family as well. I have a feeling I'll be that kind of mom when I'm older...I envy people who have a really close relationship with their family like that, but again, it's inspiration. My daughter basically only watches Animal Planet, I'm pretty sure that by supporting her I'm going to end up doing some serious animal activism soon enough.

This was the largest dog my kid has been around. There was nothing unpredictable at all. The pitbulls she's been around were even sweeter and there was again nothing unpredictable about them. I trusted them and I knew they would never hurt my girl. Your stories and ideas are all wrong, aren't you all about not accepting the media's portrayal of news stories? Look deeper.
