Especially if it is a huge artist who is making billions already. I do buy music if it is a smaller company such as from Twisted Records. If anything this just pushes artists to tour more. I mean, who has the kind of money to pay $15 a cd? I sure as hell dont. Im a broke college student. I dont even have enough money to do my laundry right now. heh. your thoughts?
Of course pirating music is wrong -- you're taking someone's work for free, when they are obviously asking for compensation. That said, I do pirate music, but I don't lie to myself about it. I know it's wrong, but I do it anyway.
i kinda agree with u with the big artists they dont need any more money ! but on the other hand i guess they only hav all that money cause ppl bought their music! i like to hav the cd or vinyl anyway so do buy smaller artists.. but like most people am guilty of downloadin free too
The thing is though, that they own the work. It's not anyone else's place to say that they 'don't need any more money' and just take it for free. It's still theirs, and they still have a right to it.
i agree with the first post.. the only music i pirate is the well known artists.. if its a local band i am more then happy pay the few bucks to buy there CD if i like them i wanna support them... now as far as artists and what they can do.. the best example i can use is Nine Inch Nails and Radio Head.. both of these artists release free digital copies of there new music.. and then some weeks later they release the content on cd (and usually with a dvd as a little bonus to get he people who already downloaded it to buy the physical copy).. the thing is with these artists that have been around for years they are making there money on touring and mech.. they dont need the big money from the royalties anymore.. personally i love that these artists have embraced the way the music industry has turned and are welcoming it with open arms
I figure if their dead or have made all their money already, the music, though not legally, becomes public domain. And besides, there have been a few bands in the digital age that owe their career to having their music been downloaded and listened to.
Pirating music is a great thing IMO. Well known bands have nothing to lose from it usually because some people still buy their albums and not to mention merchandise, which has probably made more money than the actual music itself anyways.. For local bands it could go both ways... They need to get their music heard, which downloading and pirating can help them achieve the status they're after. At the same time they are aspiring musicians that need money for new equipment and to tour to sell themselves and their merch. In the end though, if they're true musicians that just want their music and voice to be heard, they won't care for the money.
i dont think it's wrong. fundamentally, organized noise should be available for free, especially the kind that supports tours! if anything the law is the opposite of how it should be. plus a lot of artists make music just on the comp. we're all advancing in technology and technology heightens our prestige of living. doesnt make sense to have such primal shit as the pirating law. plus if you are a true 'artist' you shouldn't care about money. of course they do need to get by, but thats what touring is for
Yeah its technically wrong. But you know what, so is putting toxic ingredients in foods, "terrorists" ramming planes into buildings, and scandalous data regarding man made climate change. If those things are able to happen in the world then damn it, im going to download some music. My wrong is miniscule compared to those wrongs.
I agree with this! but at the same time I try to support the artist by going to the concert! and maybe buying a shirt.
everyone knows its wrong, but people think that it is such a small thing that it's not serious. that being said, i do it too.
I could never do that. Stealing is alright if it's, let's say, stealing food to feed someone who can't afford to feed them self, but it's wrong if "mang, I don't wanna buy my Indie Rock, that's whitie tryin' to keep me down"! Music is an art. Artists need to be compensated for their work.
First of all, I'm not gonna feel sorry for some multi millionare rockgod who has 15 cars, a giant house, and partys all the time because people are downloading his music. Second, artists make almost no money off CDs, it mostly goes to their label, and I have no problem ripping off a record label. Most of their money comes from touring, so I go to concerts when I can. So yeah, I'm not gonna feel sorry for them because they can't get a third dimond studded swiming pool when I eat ramen noodles five nights a week.
Fact remains, it's not yours to take. That's a good point though about record labels. A good majority of them seem to just rip the artists off, and it is true that they make most of their money from touring.
Record labels do in fact rip off artists a lot, but there's a reason they exist and artists sign up, they do get an artists name out there. But seriously, people trying to defend their piracy is hilarious. Yea I do it too but I don't make excuses for it. Stealing is stealing, it's not yours, it's their art work, deal with it. You ever think maybe they deserve what they get. Artist entertain millions of people around the world, and despite how glamorous it looks putting on a music concert in a different city every night is neither easy nor a fun way to live after a while. Hell most musical artists don't even need to make music or tour anymore, they can retire, but they still do it to make their fans happy and their fans basically say "pft, fuck you, it's mine to take you rich bitches"
Yea, there's a reason copyrights don't expire the second someone dies, I'm pretty sure they'd like it if money from their art went to their children and families.
Ok, fine, that aside. (I don't know all the copyright laws so I won't fight it from that perspective) is sneaking candy into a movie theature wrong?
