I've known for a while that there's gelatin in films, but I never really thought about it. Are you still alright with using film, even if it's not veg?
I did know about that, it does bug me. We have a digital camera (sans gelatin) so I just use that. My family don't know what the fuss is about. They have no issues eating steak, so there's no point explaining. Can't do anything about them, just have to fight my own battles. TTFN Sage
Yea.. I'm a photographer. When I learned that film had gelatin in it I was pissed! I have a digital cam and a film cam. I'm going to be investing in a pro grade digi cam very soon, as that's what I do for a living. The sad fact of the matter is that it's very hard if not damn near impossible to be a 100% harmless vegan in the world we live in today. Did you know that inner tubes for bikes have animal product in them? There are so many things in this world that we use that have some kind of animal based derivative in them, or at some point in time had some ingredient within that product that was tested on an animal somwhere. All we can do as ethical vegheads is to do what we can on a concious level to avoid the things we do know contain animal ingredients or have been tested on animals. It's so sad how reliant the human race is on the exploitation of animals for our own selfish gain.
thanx for making me feel not quite so horrible i still have to use film because the photography course that i'm taking says that you can't use a digital camera (part of the grading is the technical part that we do in the darkroom) but as soon as the course is done i think i'm gonna switch to digital.
minjeg, those skills will be good for you. I use film and a digital (5 megapixel, looking to upgrade) and film is still the better medium. Digital is catching up, but not yet. I am VERY conservative with film and use as little as possible.
