Do you twiddle with your phone in public? How connected to your phone are you? The more I see people twiddling with their phones, the more I realize what a lost cause humanity has become.
Fairly frequently. Not to check for missed calls, texts, or other types of human interaction. My twiddling is mainly to avoid social interaction. I only got a smartphone less than 6 months ago. I don't really associate it with what humanity has become, only as a new outlet for what humanity has always been.
They scare me when I pass them on the highway. None of my friends are phone twiddlers, cause im not around people who want to be social but cant get off the phone. Then you watching a movie with friends and someones ring blares.. wtf .. turn that off.. Meanwhile brain cancer increases!
Isn't that sort of, well, twiddling? I agree with you here. I may use my phone to avoid interaction with strangers, but if I am with people I actually know or care about, I simply turn my phone off or put it on silent. I can't stand when people I hang out with can't get off of their phone.
I am talking about people you see twiddling at the grocery store, walking down the street, amidst a crowd of people, etc. I twiddle when no one is around.
The Only Thing Worse Than Phone "Twiddlers" Are Phone "Gigglers", They Stand In The Middle Of The Pavement Obstructing Peeps And Stare At The Screen And Giggle.... Sat Next To One Today Whilst Waiting For My Takeout And All She Did For 15 Minutes Was Run Her Finger Up And Down The Screen And Giggle...Giggle...Giggle.... Cheers Glen.
I see them everywhere with their heads down oblivious to the world around them - there’s no escape. They remind me of the zombie horde’ lethargic with their heads down the perfect metaphor for phone twiddling Hotwater
I was walking with a friend once. While she was texting, she walked right into a mail box, lol. I could have said something to warn her, but I didn't.
i see people hunched over their phone a lot too, and was quick to criticize. but then i realized i look exactly the same if i'm reading a book in public.
i tend to answer calls and texts from work. from friends too i suppose, but those are not as common. i don't have a smart phone, so there's only so much twiddling i can do on it.
If I feel unsafe I will bring out my phone and try to call someone, if there's no one available to call I will start texting people. It calms my nerves. I was taught to do that when I was in college. The idea is it will deter someone from approaching/attacking if they know you're talking to someone on the phone. I don't know, I think I read recently that it does the opposite.
yeah, me too. I twiddle with my phone when I'm in awkward situations with a bunch of strangers. The waiting room of the DMV is a good example of this. If I don't twiddle with my phone in these situations some well-meaning but annoying old lady will inevitably strike up a conversation with me. before smart phones I would take a book. I've always used reading as a way to deal with social anxiety. when I'm by myself or with people I know I usually don't look at my phone for hours.
Hi, proud iPhone 5 owner here. I hardly ever get messages from friends, but I still twiddle with my phone to show it off and make people watch me in awe when I whip out my iPhone 5.
