a while back i was downloading "gin & Juice" by snoop dogg. the first song i picked to download said the artist was Phish. I hadnt started smoking and didn't know who Phish was at the time. When the sogn was done downloading and i hit play it came up playing this country/hippy version of the song (which was sweet). So i figured Id throw it on here since somebodyll prolly know cuz this is def. a Phish loving site. Did Phish ever cover "gin&Juice" by Snoop Dogg??

no, not at all... this is one of the HUGE misconceptions of online downloading... not sure who the band is, but it's definitely NOT phish.

no, they didnt do that song. i read somewhere what happened. it was actually done by some bluegrass band of a different name than phish, but they were confused with another band who happened to be named phish (not the jamband phish). or something equally crazy like that

i swear, i cant count the number of times id be talking with someone and id ask them if they listen to phish, they say yea. i say oh what album, and they say "well, ive only heard one song, gin and juice". i just sit there and broil in anger and frustration!

This song has not been performed or recorded by the Vermont band Phish .

It was originally done by Dr. Dre, Snoop, and a NYC hip-hop artist named Phish, and has been covered by a bluegrass band from Texas called the Gourds. The latter circulates on MP3, and is sometimes incorrectly labelled as by Phish.

The hip-hop artist "Phish" is also featured on backup vocals for Dre's "What's the Difference" (track 7 on Dr. Dre 2001 - a title as remarkably unoriginal as using the name Phish nearly two decades after the band started to).

I guess I don't have anything useful to add to this thread. But I can say the Gourds are awesome. They play here every few months and are a lot of fun live. If you have the chance, see them.

    Wait a minute, there's a hip-hop artist named "Phish"????? That's just wrong.

yeah i'm pretty sure there's no hip hop band called "phish" or there would be some serious trademark issues going on...

could be too because of bathtub gin - some people just remember a phish song with the word "gin" in it and incorrectly label some stuff.

who knows. it's not really unreasonable to imagine them covering it though, i dunno why anyone would get mad about that :)

that particular gords track sounded like phishy bluegrass. It was a phase the band (Phish ) exploited long enough to get some other folks into newgrass.
