Ok, this may sound stupid, but ive heard from a couple unreliable friend sources that phish may come back. I gotta know if there's any truth to this. Doubtful, but still gotta know. From a devoted Phish head
ok well, its all rumors man. Unless they personally know all the members of phish and they know something the rest of the jam nation is outta the loop on, I'd discoutn it as bullshit and wait for something official from someone actually associated with the band
its been too long man....eveyday that they arent reuniting is a day closer to them not reuniting at all
just can't agree with that. they have not been gone that long. less than three years. this is still a very healthy break. they are coming back. the dates are not set or anything...but Trey and the rest of the boys have expressed the inevitable return of Phish. its not going to happen this summer...but it won't be long...
maybe...I'd just rather move on than jsut keep hoping and hoping for it and nothing ever happen. Dont get me wrong though, a Phish reunion would please me mroe than anything I could think of.
Then again, look at what may be happening with the Police. Strong confirmed reports of them getting a tour together this summer and Sting finally agreeing to play with Stewart and Andy again. Crap, I've waited more than 20 years to see these guys again, as have millions of others, and when they play again, we're all going to fill up every seat possible. You just have to have faith. Phish will get it together eventually.
there is no doubt that Phish will get back together, its not a hopeless thought. do the research, Trey has repented against his "we're done" comment many times....we've seen two versions of a 3/4 Phish reunion. When Trey, Mike and Fishman played Divided Sky, Page was in the audience but didn't go on stage as not to have a "reunion" at the Utica....so its only a matter of time. i say we will see a Phish tour in the summer of 2009....no doubt...
well, trey said in an inerveiw with guitar world that he was leaving phish because he was searching for more musically. maybe some day he'll decide the next best step musically would be to get phish back together...it's possible..but your guess is as good as mine if it's probable
Unless Trey goes the classical route -- which he's quite capable of -- or the hardcore jazz route (which he experimented with briefly in Surrender to Air), it's going to be hard to find something more musical than Phish was. They had their sometimes glaring flaws, but that was more a product of the individual members than the collective production.
summer '09 is my guess too. They (especially trey) just need a little more time to stretch out and explore some of their musical ventures. I personally would like to see GRAB play again.
i think we should all keep our cool and not get our hopes up. what happens with phish happens. i think the best thing to do is support the individuals that made phish possible and wait for the next big thing that may even be better than phish. (i too would LOVE to see GRAB tour again)
as of now, there is no one in the jam world who could "fill" the place of Phish. I don't think any jam band will get any bigger than String Cheese Incident Size....popular, but not selling out 3 day 70,000 person festivals......but thats not really important. just making the observation....Phish was a weird Phenomenon that will not likely ever be re-created. you may think some bands are "better", but Phish had something that all of these other "jambands" lack. all the other "jambands" are fluffed up, pointless noodling. Phish had substance.
Phish is amazing, but I wouldnt go as far to say that all other jambands are "fluffed up, pointless noodling". By saying that it just makes you sound like the ignorant people who dismiss all jambands because the label put on them. If thats what you really think (which i don't think you do) then you need to start listining harder.
my comment was blunt and general. but bands like Umphrees, moe., Perpetual Groove, and others "like that".....are just, not good. Ums, doesn't have a single good song, they have songs that have been cool live, but as actual song writers they blow. which i think is the problem with many of the bands out there.....SCI was the last of the great jam bands, that on top of being amazing-skilled players, they could also write a song. Phish and the Dead, were also great song writers, on top of being skilled musicians. too many bands are comprised of good players, but have no real song writing teams/leaders.... the bands that have a little more substance are bands like New Monsoon, but they are such a niche band, that they will never be that popular. i like Galactic alot, but they are purely a live band. especially the instrumental tours, they are amazing, and i love the show, but long jevity will elude them...... i'm just rambling, but i'm just really dissapointed in the "scene" ......5 years ago, i was hopeful....these days i'm kind of bitter.....it just feels like so many bands have dropped the ball. i want SCI to keep touring, Phish to come back, and i want Bobby and Phil to kiss and make up so the Dead can come back on tour....i need some soul!!!
Ive heard this said before....but it was said with "the Dead" in place of everywhere you said "Phish", and it was 15 years ago. On any given night, there are 100 bands out there on a stage somewhere, laying it down...just because there arent 70,000 folks there and a circus following them around, doesnt mean that they dont have 'substance'...i honestly think there is as much or more talent in 'the scene' right now than ever before. These bands are every bit as fierce and soulful as the bar bands were in the late 80s and early 90s (i.e. phish, wsp, BT, etc)....the next 'weird phenomenon' just may be playing your local bar this weekend...go hear what they have to say. in another 15 years, they may be the ones playing for 70,000 people, and you might be suprised at just how much substance they have....... the wheel is turnin' and you cant slow it down........
i've seen great shows by other bands....and i hope there will be another band that makes me feel like Phish, makes me feel. and your right, i was waiting for someone to make that Dead comment. because its true...i guess what i'm refering to is the current "jambands" on the scene. the ones you see on every festival bill. you know the ones. and there just too stale. but there is a band that i'm very excited about from LA, by far better than any of these other bands....check em out.... revolutionary side-effects http://www.myspace.com/revolutionarysideeffects
