I wa son a bus coming from a local town about 20 min south from here, we're takin' central coast, and I saw a penguin by a little aquaduct-ish thing. their were other birds & ducks but then there was this smallish penguin-looking bird... no one believes me.
Penguins cannot survive in weather like California is having right now...it might have LOOKED like one, but I can guarantee you it wasn't one.
no i don't have any pics. it wasn't real recently probably 2 yrs ago? i mean i know penguins can't survive in ca. i did see some real ones like the one i saw at the zoo the other day, but i really don't think it was.... but then again...if penguins can walk the red carpet for the premiere of "march of the penguins" then why cant they hahaa
difference between visiting someplace for the day and living there the whole year. l.a. isn't california though, it shouldn't even be IN california, that part of the state should belong to mexico, along with arazona and part of texas. i've lived mostly in parts of california where pengines COULD live (if they weren't migratory sea creatures) truckee (where i started kindergarten) is california's answer to buffalo new york (i kid you not. can you say 20 FEET of snow?) =^^= .../\...
Did it look like this? I saw these in California. These are baby sea gulls. I was wondering what they are, too. They are nearly as large as the adults at this age, but a very unusual color. My 6 yr old insisted "These are puffins." I don't think there are puffins in California, either. Someone told me they were baby sea gulls. Then we saw them with the parents. They are pretty cute.
no it wasn't baby seagulls. i'm thinking it was some other sea bird tho. question: can ibis live in ca? funny, i know absolutely nothing about california & birds after living here my entire life!:&
Ibises have long legs, like a flamingo. They are found mainly in Egypt and northern Africa. AFAIK, they are not in Cal
Hey penguins live in the galapagos, which is like a few thousand miles away, but it IS on the equator, so they can take warm temps. maybe a few got caught in a current or something
I saw a peacock on the Eisenhower Expressway on the way to Chicago once. On the On Ramp at Roosevelt Rd. Weirdest thing I ever saw. It's pretty far from Brookfield Zoo. I hear some of the rich complexes in Oak Brook have Peacocks near their ponds ect. I KNOW it was a Peacock, because it had it's male feathers and everything. No one beleived me. I have also seen a woodchuck in a tree. My dogs chased it up there. When I called Animal Control, they said, "Maam, if it's in a tree, it ain't a Woodchuck." It was. There are a thousand woodchucks in our area. This one was just scared. And fukkin Animal Control never came. I put my dogs in the house, and put a carrot on the ground, to entice the thing out. A few hours later the carrot and the woodchuck were gone. I have no idea if this has any relevence.
Peacocks? Did you know that female peacocks are called peahens? It's true. Anyway, Peacocks can pretty much live anywhere...someone near my home used to farm them...and they survive through the winter pretty OK...particularly if they are being fed by someone.
Yes, The peahens are kind of brown. The one I saw was a boy. He had the colorful fan on his butt and everything. I was alone, going to the doctor, and I wanted to tell someone so badly. "OMG, I just saw a peacock." But, I was on the way to the Neurologost, so I didn't say anything.
It would have been worse if it had been a shrink. LOL! But, still, my Neuro is a brain doctor. "Doctor doctor, I saw a peacock. Can I have my meds, now?" <snort> LOL!!!!
