I am thinking of purchasing a pendulum and I was wondering if anyone has used them. If so, do they work?

    Appreciate the concern!

I was thinking of doing that; in shamanism, one can perform a bonding spell that binds your spirit to an object, which I also thought of doing.

why on earth would someone want to bind their spirit to an object??? even if it's a sacred tool, it's still just a thing! what if it were to become lost, stolen...what if you grew beyond its usefulness? tools, even "sacred" ones, are just that, tools. the real power, the real energy is not in the tangible object. don't do something so foolish, your spirit is far more precious than even the "coolest" new-age toys!

I'm sorry if it doesn't make sense to you, but it is traditional in my religion to bind yourself to any sacred object or medicine tool, since they are being used for the deepest spiritual excercises. They are used in such close affiliation with the spirit, it is important to make it one's soul-brother, not just another "new age toy," as you put it.

Your discourse seems to imply that I am valuing my material over my spirit. In truth, my shamanic beliefs teach that both are equal and should be merged.

Sorry if my intent to bond myself to an object offended you; in was not intentional.

    With best of wishes, ase'.

That's what I did, I made my own. I found a nice crystal that's already been drilled, and put it on a string of beads and created a special blessing ritual for it. I find it very effective to use!

I have a small booklet ont he pendelum that I got from Mood Menders store, it says:

Throughout all cultures a keepsake or amulet has given men, women, and children inspiration and security. In it you can keep the seeds of your dreams, tokens of love or admiration, words of laughter or joy, memories of times past, secrets held close, a Talisman of good luck and power, or symbols of your faith.

Pedulums are quite interesting. Try this - hold the pendulum over the upturned tip of the index finger, and when it begins to rotate, note the direction. Then move onto the second finger - you will find that the pendulum will swing in the opposite direction, as it will alternately for the other fingers.

I'va also seen them used to gauge how fresh food is in a market - the idea being the fresher the cabbage or whatever, the greater the swing it induces in the pendulum. I have also used a pendulum on three occaisions and successfully predicted the sex of un-born children.

Seriously though, there's nothing 'magic' about it, and there's no need to perform riters, bind oneself to a material object or anything of that nature to be able to begin to dowse with a pendulum - all it requires is sensitivity.

I've had several pendulums. The ones which I've found work best are crystal (whatever your power-stone or stones happen to be) strung up on a peice of your hair. The pendulum I made like that worked way better than the one I payed $15 for at the new age store... not to mention it was a lot cheaper! ^^

Making one is probably one of the easiest occult items to make. All you need is a string or small chain of some sort and a small weighted item attached to the end.

As for using it, the possibilities are endless. But here is a good link. http://www.crystalinks.com/dowsing.html

What religion might that be? Please dont say "shamanism" because there are hundreds of traditions in the many different flavors that live underneath that umbrella.

No 16 year old should be doing shamanic practices like binding your soul to things, or any other potentially spirit harming trend that they might see in a book. It takes years of knowledge and experience to jump into the boat of "shamanism"

Believe in it, of course, but leave the practice of it for later years.

I'm really eclectic when it comes to my religious beliefs. I follow beliefs and principles of many shamanic systems (I prefer Native American however), but I attempt to use my own mind to infer from these and to "make my own path".

So, when I say shamanism, I mean that it was inspired my many shamanic faiths, but I use my own metaphysical analysis of the universe to understand the nature of subjectivity and objectivity.

And while I am grateful for your advice, I really don't appreciate it when people tell me that I'm too young to understand certain things (BTW, I'm sorry that sounded so rude; I didn't mean it that way, I just couldn't find the right words to express my idea with a positive connotation), because (not to be immodest) I am more spiritually advanced than most adults, and have been immersing myself in these practices for some time. Plus, it's not like I just jump into things headfirst. I do prepare for them and allow the basic principles to guide me to some spiritual epiphone prior to the actual ritual.

We're all the same age spiritually. Sometimes it just takes a little time to remember and let the experience of the ages crystallize. If you open yourself to the river of the Spirit, then there is nothing outside of your consciousness (and physical age becomes irrelevent).

Thank you for your advice and concern. Namaste

BTW, finally decided not to bind my soul to it--realized that it wasn't necessary after I meditated on it for a while.

You do sound far advanced than a lot of adults, I am sorry i classified you as any 16 year old, believe me, i have been told the same for my age as well, and i am 26.

Most that knew me online thought i was very much older.

It is good to hear you say that you dont jump headlong into things, like most your age do.

Sorry for my stereotyping, and i have to say you seem to be on a good start to a long, wise, spirit-filled life.

No worries. I just feel that if anybody (of any age) is to grow spiritually, they have to challenge themselves with new experiences and new ideas that further their horizons of thought; don't "settle" for what is customary. I do, however, realize that I do have a lot of learning to do (but I think that can be said about everybody to some degree).

Thanks again for your concern. Namaste

I am glad i have met you, you have
given me new views towards our
younger brothers and sisters of the earth.

You are a nice example, and hopefully
there will be more young ones like you.
