Do you ever get half way through a pattern only to realize that the person who came up with the pattern is either:

A: A space alien from the planet "giagantic body part" or
    B: Smoking some hardcore stuff

    ????

I just spent a hour working on a hat for a friend, only to find out that it would fit someone 2 head... but only if BOTH HEADS were in the hat at the same time!

Grrr! I hate having my time wasted!!!

That does kind of suck. There are some patterns where - even though I'm using EXACTLY the right kind of yarn (because I'm anal that way, right tension only doesn't cut it for me) the end result is WAY off.

At least with a hat it's only a ball or so of yarn. Try finding out that a whole sweater pattern is screwed up.

Patterns like that drive me up the wall as well. I'm a pretty small chick and I made myself a sweater one time....it went from my neck to my knees and I used the extra small measurements, the correct yarn and needles....maybe she meant extra small for a yeti. LOL.

I made a sweater from the stitch'n bitch book...it ended up too short and wide as a bus. :D It's been in the closet awaiting frogging for about 2 years....:D

    That's why I don't use patterns.

Generally, the only time that I use pattens is when I'm hired to do contract work. I have way too much fun making my own most times :D

I don't usually use patterns either... all the numbers confuse me. I am a total right brain. I was using this pattern to learn the basics of how to make this style of hat, add it to the database and be able to do it on my own next time.

The hats been unravelled, and I am trying a basic pattern that I've made up from 4 other patterns I already had, using the technique I learnt from the "giant head hat".
