Provisions of the Patriot Act that were due to expire were renewed for 90 days by the US Senate. This includes the controversial "roving wiretaps" and other surveillance methods.

Nonsense, this is all nonsense, you have nothing to fear, dear American citizens, your government loves you and is only looking to protect you as best it can. Stop thinking for yourselves now; here, watch some television.. see? All better.

It's not, it's really more of a principle thing over government powers.

That's a fairly wide goal, then?

Could you/would you be willing to divulge the reason why?

The patriot act also allows for allot more "legal" eavesdropping and moinitoring of U.S. citizens.

I see it more as, representing a potential problem for the average citizen.

Our constitution is framed that, and it should be, that the government has a careful system of checks and balances. That no one branch, program, member, has too much power.

In the wrong person's hands; the Patriot Act could be a tool for total fascism.

And I mean, picture the FBI doing a random wiretap and they hear a crude threatening joke about a person blowing up their work.
Could be seen as a terrorist.
Now, say they work in a government building, an abortion clinic, or anything else, politically hot.
    Sounding likelier...

I'd forgotten about that. I've read about that. For me that falls under "It's not, it's really more of a principle thing over government powers." I'm not sure how many more Americans are being eavesdropped. I didn't really mean what was in it but how was it affecting the life of an Average American. Perhaps it has instilled more fear of government. Or paranoia.

    i have no ideal.
the government does not have to tell any of us, why we are on their shit list.
i have a "hunch" that, it is, because, i work for the aclu (american civil liberties union.)
the aclu is trying to get the patriot act over turned in the courts.
    that might be the reason.

Are there no safe-gaurds? Is there no scrutiny? There seems to be.

If a fascist got into power they would surely make up their own laws and scrap the ones they didn't like. They wouldn't, for e.g, think: "Well, we can eavesdrop on Mr Jones, but lets just run through the legalities of that first. Ooops, sorry secret police, not this time.

    Highly unlikely.

Kind of. But has it happened?

Are there many within the ACLU that are on the no-fly list?
    Are you special?
I'm not trying to be rude, btw.
