Pathological liars

Ever known one?

This guy i work with fits the description perfectly. He drives me fucking crazy and the only time i talk to him is when its work related. Their are a few other people i work with who are great people and don't get along with him either. Many people do though.

Still has anyone ever got to know a pathological liar? Ive met many liars, but none quiet like this guy.

This guy exaggerations everything he says even on a small level. Its like he creates the story he wishes his life was. Its sad, but in a way realy amazing...

Some of the things that descirbe him

Lies when it is very easy to tell the truth.
Lies to get sympathy, to look better, to save their butt, etc.
Fools people at first but once they get to know him, no one believes anything they ever say.
May have a personality disorder.
Extremely manipulative.
Has been caught in lies repeatedly.
Never fesses up to the lies.
Is a legend in his own mind.

Ever known someone like this? This is not your average liar....

 

I have never met anyone like this before. His personality is just...hard to describe. Its like their are two people sometimes. One is just very full of shit and wont stop even when it seems olbvious that everyone in that room at the time knows he is lying, yet he continues. He is a creep and a clown. I have never gotten to know anyone quiet like this. The other side of him is more dark and very manipulative.

 

He sounds as if he is intelligent if he is manipulative (That, or everyone around him are morons) Unless he only tries to manipulate people and doesn't succeed.

I've known a few people who would lie about stupid stuff, mainly to elevate other people's impression of them, but not truly pathological like the guy you describe. If I worked with someone like that I would make no attempt to lie about or hide my feelings for them, and probably just not talk with them altogether.

 

this one time, I was hunting and this bear on teh path says "deer go this way" ..
logically it coudlnt have went that way, cause it was a cave. I think the bear was lion..

 

Government officials?

 

I've met one or two... especially in my schooldays - there was one kid who claimed to be lead guitar in a rock band who were playing national gigs to great acclaim every weekend, record deals in the offing, etc.

I dont think he even had a guitar. Certainly he never appeared in any local bands over the next few years, maybe his fantasy world moved on to something else.

Another kid claimed to be playing soccer for the youth team of a professional club... even though in reality he was pretty useless. Every week he'd come back with tales of his exploits over the weekend.

In both cases everyone knew they were lying, they must have known we knew... but they kept right on.

I'm all for fantasy worlds - god knows I've got enough of my own - but when they start intruding on the outer world and sucking other people in, it starts to get a bit creepy. I guess this is when people start becoming stalkers and the like ?

broony is the dudes name phil?...i worked with a guy that had a connection to every news story in canada...his neighbors boyfriend or his wifes aunt...always someone with inside information....it used to drive me crazy

 

I know one and it's at the stage where I don't believe anything she says at all. I watch her chatting to people and think "you fucking morons" - "isn't it obvious that she's talking a load of shit?" I know that sometimes she looks at me when she's in the middle of something and she knows that I'm open mouthed at what she is saying but she just carries on. I'm like Broony, only engage her in conversation when it's work related and I don't have a choice.

 

Ive known a few, one in particular was real bad. He lied about everything.....things that didn't even matter. It's like he just wanted to see how much bs people would fall for.

I have never used the term 'pathological liar' to describe anyone. Someone i work with said he is just that. I have never heard it before. A compulsive liar is someone who will lie no matter what, they have a very hard time telling the truth.

Now i guess a pathological liar is someone who lies to get his way. "They are manipulative, crafty and usually have a goal in mind when they lie. Pathological liars have no concern for the feelings of others, even of those people who are close to them."

The guy though, its really like he has two personalities,,,which is why one of my other fellow employees was the firs to call him this. We have had many discussions on the subject. This was the first time hearing the description.

LOL iam definalty a pathological liar then, the other day i said my dad doesnt like me to somebody got a little tearied eyed and kept on drinking with him. Hes a great friend of mine and then i soon realized my dads actually really cool. Can be a real prick at times but yeah LOL.....Anyways, i too think iam a legend.

My mom is very religious and always told me that lying was bad, only to grow up and find out that she hardly ever tells the truth herself.

My sisters and I would compare the versions of the stories she would tell us of herself and on us sand it was like reading the Gospels of Christ.

The contradictions were so many that you would not even believe that she was talking about the same topic.

 

Ugh. I work with a pathological liar too.

First she had a fiance out west. Which she planned to move to
Then all of a sudden she's 20 weeks preggers.
Then all of a sudden she's having an abortion because she doesn't like the gender
Then she's working on her abortion day.
The moving day keeps getting changed until last week, when she's now not moving and unsure about her fiance.
Oh, then there's the part where she got a good camera and lens' for Xmas and by Feb she's had one of her photo's in a 'top canadian magazine' ad.

It's like she's the Niagra Fall of spewing bullshit.
