Patchouli: Love it or Hate it?

I know a lot of people who gag at the smell of the stuff, but I've been in love with it since I first caught the scent.

I don't wear it, anymore, but I do still keep a bottle around, just to cop a whiff every now and then. It seems to mellow me out.

How weird is that?

So, how do you guys feel about it?
Is it the heavenly scent of by-gone days, or is it merely the essence of dirty hippie?

love, love, love patchouli. I add a few drops to my unscented shampoo, conditioner and body wash and carry a faint scent of patchouli all day long. I love the scent but hate when it's overpowering.

 

i like it but not mixed with the scent of a human body that hasn't bathed in 2 months

I love the patchouli inscense more than the oil. I burn it all the time.

I like patchouli. I used to wear it all the time but slacked back on it. I still put it on sometimes but not as overpowering as I used to. I used to get the 13 dollar pure patchouli it was like .4 fluid oz. and pour the whole thing over my head did it like once every 2 weeks. the first couple days people could smell me for like 2 city blocks away. But after that it mellowed and smelled really good.

I have a 3 year old that was playing in one of my day packs and she found a bottle and took the cap off and droped the bottle in a pocket not to have been found until one day I opened the closest and it hit. That smell that I didn't know how it got there, made all my work clothes make me smell like a hippie. Luckily no one complained about it. I even got a few comments.

 

Always used to love that smell when going in head shops in the 60s and 70s. Great stuff...

 

I agree. That's what my memories of Patchouli consist of. It seems that the patchouli's of today just don't have the same essence that they did in the '60's. It used to be one of my favorite scents, except one time a young lady in our house spilled an entire vial on my leather hat, and I got questioned by a couple of cops who passed me and stopped me because they thought that I smelled like I just stepped out of a pot party! They finally bought my explanation, and let me go on my way.

 

I joke about Hippie Stink that combination of Patchouli, Pot Smoke, and Body Odor. One time I had someone wave a vial under my nose and I smelled like it for 3 days. It wasn't stuck in my nose other people smelled it on me. I'm not a huge fan.

Patchoulli, yes, smells great. I too burn the patchoulli incense.

But I switched my body oil to sandalwood.
