First started listening to Pat Metheny back in 89, for a treat listen to his collaboration with Kenny Garrett on Garrett's "Pursuance: The Music Of John Coltrane" listen to him then together on "Lonnie's Lament"

Mr. Metheny is met sometimes with derision among some jazz lovers... The man has been out to the edge and back, no doubt. I heard San Lorenzo in 1976 and in the first three or four seconds I knew that the world had been shifted on it's axis a bit. Within 12 months I had experienced that live. I've had the pleasure of hearing him perform and I've spoken with him and shook his hand on two occasions. There isn't a more gracious or pleasant human being on the planet. Gotta love his attitude toward music, other musicians, and the beauty of all jazz music. I need much else in my ears, much more than only Pat's recordings, but I would never want to be without them either.
