Very, very sad. Sounds like it was either shot by the Russians, or a pro-Russian separatist group. I would assume the second is more likely.

This guy on the stream just found a bunch of passports on the ground and started opening them on camera, showing their full names and pictures. First one he opens is a 13 year old girl. Crazy.

 

Just read somewhere else that a separatist group claimed on their twitter account that they had shot down a Ukrainian military transport plane at about the same time... I think that they fucked up.

If this was with Russian supplied weapons, this could cause some real shit. On the other hand, apparently the US shot down an Iranian passenger plane in 1988 and nothing came of it, so we will have to wait and see.

 

There's little doubt that the separatists did this.

I think Russia will feel heavy pressure to stop supporting them.

This is what happens when you give sophisticated weaponry to assholes.

yeah, it looks like it was shot down. Ukrainian officials intercepted a phone call between the separatists in which it was admitted they had just downed a plane. and only some time later they realized it was a civilian plane.

it were supposedly a group of russian cossacks manning some outpost who actually downed the airplane. i don't know if that makes them any different than the separatists. and it doesn't really matter. this situation is insane.

I find it interesting that something like this usually happens and dominates the media coverage at the same times that other much bigger events are taking place in the world...that certain people would prefer the world ignores.

Did they ever find that last Malaysian plane? Probably not but I bet the round-the-clock coverage was pretty handy for some people.

 

A Malaysia Airlines passenger plane with 295 aboard was shot down by a surface-to-air missile in Ukraine near the Russian border a day after a Ukrainian military jet was downed, Fox News has confirmed.

The Boeing 777 bound for Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam was shot down at cruising altitude about 35 miles from the border, according to Anton Gerashenko, an adviser to Ukraine's Interior Minister. He said all 280 passengers and 15 crew members were killed. A Reuters correspondent near the scene reported seeing burning wreckage and bodies strewn across a nine-mile debris field. A Ukrainian Emergency official told the news agency body parts and at least 100 bodies were seen in the area.

The flight manifest reportedly included the names of 23 Americans, though State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said at a briefing Thursday, "we don't have any additional details at this point on American citizens" aboard the plane.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Ukraine bore responsibility for the crash, but he did not address the question of who might have shot it down and didn't accuse Ukraine of doing so.
"This tragedy would not have happened if there were peace on this land, if the military actions had not been renewed in southeast Ukraine," Putin said, according to a Kremlin statement issued early Friday. "And, certainly, the state over whose territory this occurred bears responsibility for this awful tragedy

Yeah that's pretty retarded when you think about it, especially if other planes have been shot down recently.

 

The FAA did back in April which is why no U.S. Airlines overfly the area.

Malaysian Airways is outside of their jurisdiction
