partial dreads from full dreads

Hello! I've had dreads for about 4 years. I have straight hair, and my dread roots are about 1 inch from my scalp. My dreads are over 10 inches long.

I'd like to make my dreadlocks looser at the roots, creating a more "partial" dread look. Basically, I'd like my hair to be straight out from the roots for about 4-5 inches, and then the rest be dreads.

Any ideas on how i can create this look? Is there a way to loosen already locked roots (i know everyone is concerned with tightening them!). Is there a way to keep new growth from locking up?

id say try using conditiner on the top of your head, but it might seep into the other dreads and cause moisture to build up. but maybe try slightly brushing your roots with a wide tooth comb and doing it daily so the knots would be less liking to form. maybe, lol

 

Start brushing the roots. Simple.

Keep brushing regularly, ya know to stop new growth locking up. Et Voila partial dreads.

 

Your dreads will probly come off. but you'll have strait roots for a little while

Some woman who worked in a local record store in my teens had them. She looked fucking retarded. And why the fuck is the forum dead? Pypes warned me but I didn't think it'd be this bad. I might end up fucking off again.

My laptop is disabled it has limited use of the right side of the key board and it spazzes out and presses the . until I press delete.
