Palin vs. latent sexism

now, really, in this day and age, a mother is still being told she needs to only be a mother, and that if she's beautiful, that's all anyone can think about. it's driving me a bit nuts. i'm all for finding troubles with her politics, her policies, her integrity as a politician, etc. but how the hell does it automatically get back to the "she's got a sweet ass" and "what kind of mother leaves her home for a career?" and THIS is from liberals. wth? :toetap05:

i mean, really. they're cheap shots. biden isn't as funny because he's what you're used to. but growing up in this society, i knew one thing going into every job: i was pretty, therefore i was useless and kinda stupid. i got it from men and women. we're still a heavily sexist society towards good looking women. good looking women are only good for fucking, breeding, and hanging on a man's arm.

It really blows my mind that Palin, a woman, can be so opposed to women's rights. We are not talking about special rights for women, but equal rights. As a black woman, I can understand some of the arguments against affirmative action, but opposing equal pay for equal work? Opposing a woman's right to choose? I don't get her and she will not get my vote!

 

I agree with the above quote, entirely. I agree with everything youve said. How frustrating there have been no advances made whatsoever with how we criticize women in the spotlight. Let alone, other women saying such things.

 

well, if she were ugly, she'd be treated with more respect. you're beautiful, i know there's been occaision where people have practically patted you on the head and treated you like there wasn't a single brain cell between your ears. it's fucking aggravating.

 

i've never had people brush me off intelligence wise because i'm a woman and "pretty women just aren't smart"

maybe i'm just not pretty enough for that, or maybe it's cause they were scared of the crazy dyke, lol!

come to think of it, i have a hard time getting people to treat me like a woman, not like a man. hmmm....

i've got legitimate concerns about palin that have nothing to do with her looks. i'm just INCREDIBLY tired of hearing jokes about her looks. i'm very sensitive to them. people figured i got a company truck because i was fucking the boss. shitheads. THAT WAS THE WOMEN!!

i'm a dual personality. i like being nice, but i've got this vicious streak.

 

its even made the news up here in canuckia that her daughter is pregnant and not married because thats SO integral to the candidates campaigning and stances n crap.... gah

 

I've heard critisism that "she shouldn't have been on an airplane after her water broke." And all the second guessing behind "never trust a pregnant woman's judgement." (Including speculation that the child was realy her daughters.)

But no matter how blatant the sexism against her, I doubt that it will turn feminists to support an anti-choice candidate.

 

no, but it sure as hell turns me AGAINST a lot of people who've been dishing up a lotta lip service...

 

here's my stance on that, as a woman who tries to live it to the best of my ability: NO ONE does it perfect. my ideals and what i can actually do are to COMPLETELY disparate items. i refuse to judge another woman because, despite what ideals she tried to raise her child with, her child got pregnant. i REFUSE. no mother is perfect. no child is perfect. and aside from locking my child in the closet, the best i can do is try to teach mine properly and HOPE their hormones don't get the better of them.

 

palin is just the latest woman who has gotten ahead by pandering to men. she's nothing new, and nothing special, and she's being exploited...also nothing new. the vice president has no power unless the prez gets offed anyways.

but...hmmm...wait a minute...i hear the little lady does know how to handle a gun. this could get interesting after all.

 

haha. she's probably got bigger balls than most of the people she'll be up against.

though i have to say, in reference to the article above, just because the hack comedians like to make jokes about her looks is no reason NOT to pick her. they do that to EVERYONE.

i'm also a hunting woman, a christian, pro-life. these are not necessarily things that make a woman unreasonable and incapable of making rational decisions that include vast swathes of people. but apparently, these are things that aren't gonna garner a lotta votes. that's america.

 

I have to draw a line at creationism, and pro-life. At least make a choice available.

 

yes. creationism in school. in philosphy of religion, maybe. nor does pro-life mean anti-abortion. layers within layers.
