Yep, PETA kills thousands of animals at their facilities and inside their "kill vans", all funded by donations.

I think PETA have a policy of not keeping animals alive. Rather than keeping animals regardless of the situation.

Even if they didn't kill animals, they'd still be a pretty reprehensible lot. Their leader compared the chicken killed to make KFC's fried chicken to the Holocaust, having pets to slavery and they even oppose the use of service animals like seeing eye dogs and testing on lab rats to find cures for diseases like cancer and AIDS. Fuck PETA.

Odon, you can be really useful sometimes, but you are not picky enough with your sources.

Of course PETA is going to justify PETA's actions. But PETA kills 90% of the animals they take in, including perfectly healthy animals that they were just unable to find homes for.

Even though they've spoken out against euthanasia. Even though they've spoken out against keeping pets.

    A much better source:

    http://www.petakillsanimals.com/

"According to records from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, PETA killed 1,647 cats and dogs last year while placing just 19 in adoptive homes. Since 1998, a total of 29,398 pets have died at the hands of PETA workers."

    When?

I think this one is better.

    http://dubiosity.net/2009/03/is-peta-really-euthanizing-most-of-its-shelter-animals-yes/

The above link suggests they take in a lot more than your link suggests.

From the 'official' site - this seems fair:

If anyone has a good home, love, and respect to offer, we beg them: Go to a shelter and take one or two animals home. The problem is that few people do that, choosing instead to go to a breeder or a pet shop and not "fixing" their dogs and cats, which contributes to the high euthanasia rate that animal shelters face. Most of the animals we took in and euthanized could hardly be called "pets," as they had spent their lives chained up in the back yard, for instance. They were unsocialized, never having been inside a building of any kind or known a pat on the head. Others were indeed someone's, but they were aged, sick, injured, dying, too aggressive to place, and the like, and PETA offered them a painless release from suffering, with no charge to their owners or custodians.

I'm not a fan of Peta but I'd certainly not use your link to make my point.

Perhaps I was being a tad lazy.

Well, I've been saying this one for years, too, which changes everything ;)
    :2thumbsup:

Peta is, by now, quite well known for this, just by the way.

I think it's sort of like this:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKPkDCYY4f0"]WKUK - Season 5 - Stork Factory - YouTube

There are cases where animals must be put down, "no kill" shelters in metropolitan areas can be disasters without the right support, but PETA is simply sick about it. Anything but "ethical". They have the money to fix these problems, but want to kill animals.

    I was being a tad sarcastic :D

I've decided PETA do kill lots of animals - but I have no idea why. I know they are not animal pacifists - I'm not sure they ever said they were. Maybe they, as my link suggests, take on animals that are scheduled to be killed by other, as to give them a 'better death'. I don't believe a lot of what was within the original article - but don't like PETA enough to be fair to them.

huh. Interesting read. I have to think about that. The number one thing that turned me off to PETA as well as many other people I'm sure, is the news that they killed animals. I'm surprised they actually confronted and explained this on their site.
I still don't trust or support them, I like their tips on vegetarian food and their message, but I don't trust them. I have to say though, why would they kill except as humane euthanasia? Seems counter-productive to their cause.
I want to believe there are good pro-vegetarian pro-vegan pro-animal groups out there.

That's what they say it is. On the other site I posted - a poster said they go to other animal shelters and take the animals that are listed to be euthanised - so that's why their figures are higher than others. I have no idea, though - that could be spin.

I don't know about the first two - but the only animal group I really trust is the RSPCA.

Well, PETA says that they take the ones slated to die, and give them a better death. They do care about the drugs used to kill them.

But they still take in a huge number of allegedly savable animals, and kill most of them right off the bat. They seem to just adopt out enough to take cute pictures for their "why we euthanize all our animals" web page.

I think the root of it is a lot of them are the type who would rather see something dead, than in captivity. Once you make friends with that squirrel, you have to blow it's brains out, because it's mysteriously un-ethical.
