Well, overpopulation just multiplies by the number of person the damages to the earth. For example, the human have breeded so many cows for beef eating that they are said to produce more gaz than cars... It's linked to consumerism, but still... more humans, more cows, more gaz! :leaving:
yeah, i agree with the others. you have identified all the problems, but the one that amplifies them all is the massive number of people who believe they are a good thing. if the children of today weren't being targeted as 'consumers of the future', we might have a hope. it always amuses me when religious people support capitalism. as if spirituality has anything to do with materialism. but religion is not about spirituality, it's about control. good thread topic here.
this is true. it's hilarious in theory and sad in context to think about, but it's true. when cows fart they emit more ozone-eating methane than cars, because there are more cows than cars. i mean, all those stomachs, people, come on. a cow's gotta do what a cow's gotta do. overpopulation is the problem. everything we do to damage the earth only multiplies as more people are born. i read however that almost every ethnic group is stabilising itself as far as having babies are concerned.
Ayatollah you once, ayatollah you twice. Khomeini times ayatollah you? Population growth has been exponential lately, and we're headed towards a Malthusian disaster. Read Thomas Malthus, An Essay On the Principle of Population, 1798. Better yet read The Limits to Growth, by Donella H. Meadows, Dennis L. Meadows, and Jørgen Randers, 1972. Then go out and breed to your heart's content. Ain't nothin I can do about it.
I think that over-population is the root of most environmental issues that we face in modern society. Also, I don't believe religion is directly to blame for anything - Christianity is just the right-wing's piggypack-ride to supporting their greed / oil issues. All in all, the more people you have, the more environmental problems we are going to face as the ultimate outcome. The irony lies within these children being born without homes, born without families that can actually support and provide for them... and that's what makes me absolutely sick about all of this.
wait, how the hell does religion have anything to do with it, environmental concern is a pillar of many faiths, even if people dont follow it
I agree most of all the problems we have, global warming, animals loosing habitit and the loss of bio-diversity is due to over population, I think maybe you wanna check the fact again.
Blah, blah, blah. Malthusian religionists have been whining such nonsense for how long? Resource availability also grows exponentially also, as God provided plenty of resources for everybody, but they require work and development. As the workforce naturally expands along with the population growth, that is automatically taken care of, well at least in a free society not ruled by anti-population, overeducated idiots.
did you watch it ? How do resources grow eponentially, do you mean the imaginary invisible friend you call god creates a larger planet ?
Pronatalist wrote "Resource availability also grows exponentially also, as God provided plenty of resources for everybody, but they require work and development. " That is totally untrue. The Earth has finite resources, it is imposible for that to continually happen. The only exception would be in the case of using resources from gathered from off-Earth sources and that isn't even close to happening anytime soon. You continued denial of the facts of the current lack of resources for many of the poeple on Earth is just scary. Half the population of the world currently lives on less then $2 a day. Nearly a billion people cannot read or write their names (lack of educational resources). About 1.1 billion people in developing countries have inadequate access to water, and 2.6 billion lack basic sanitation. According to UNICEF, 30,000 children die each day due to poverty. You have mentioned before that is just a matter of even redistrution of resources. Well that's never going to happen, short of some sort of worldwide communist revolution, so as you mentioned before you don't like communists either. So how much are you willing to give up, so that the wealth can spread more evenly?? so that these other people can live, cause by the way you talk you, are obviously not poor or know what it is like to be impoverished. Everything you say is based on your faith and not on any real facts. You should actually visit some these developing countries, so that you might gain some clue as to what is really going on.
perhaps pronatalist would be willing to give up his cushy, ample american lifestyle to help make the life of one somalian a little bit better? or maybe he's not really that altruistic.... spread the wealth--distribute the resources! ... and then say goodbye to your happy, rich life full of clean, running water and boundless material posessions!
pronatalist you really should watch that link go through the maths several times if you can find mistakes please post them here , we do actually live on a finite planet there are limits to the amount of elements on this planet . unless that is you can prove differently like the man in the link who believed that if we run out of copper we can just make copper out of something else not understanding basic chemistry that copper is a element . There is a limit to the surface area of the planet , try to understand what expontential growth means . And if we live in a non free society ruled by anti-population, overeducated idiots, why do we have a expanding world population pretty much world wide and nothing being done to stop it . For a start give me a definition of expotential growth what is it ?
we have a case of good timing in here. a few posts back, people were questioning the argument that religion is a threat to the environment, followed by a post from the local christian fanatic who claims that "resource availability grows exponentially". there you have it! proof that narrowminded and anti-intellectual religion is a direct threat to everything precious in our world. why do these people, whose most cherished beliefs depend upon supernatural fantasy, even bother pretending that they understand science? it's a fucking joke, and in very poor taste.
