So for the past couple of weeks, some friends and myself have been talking about going to London. Currently, we all live in Texas, but we want to take a vacation over the Sea's. We have been many places before; France, Turkey, Greece, Germany. But we find its time to go to the UK.

What I wish to know is, how's it like over there, socially?

Is it generally accepting of Americans, or would it be better to be known as Texans? (I ask because in Turkey and Germany, people we much much friendlier when they learned we were from Texas rather than the US)

How in general is the atmosphere of the ~20 year old population?

Any specific words to avoid, that have a different meaning in American Society?

Thanks for reading, and any answers are appreciated

sorry i can't answer your questions, but i was intrigued by something u said :
why?? That's really strange considering being from Texas doesn't change the fact that u're American.

They're generally really friendly and accepting, but whatever you do, do NOT use the word 'tube'. They will turn on you in an instant.

"Underground" can also be seen as an offer of anal sex. Don't use this word. It's also considered polite to offer sausages to the homeless.

Originally I was confused by this, but when I asked a couple in Turkey why it made a difference, they said general Americans are rude. They say most people they hear from Texas are respectful and help out more. I can't argue with this, a few months ago when we took a trip across the states, northern people (New York and Michigan mainly) people were incredibly rude, where as the more south you went, much more polite.

Alright, good to know, now im just curious what it actually means lol.

Really? I thought that was the subway system

A 'tube' is a penis. If anyone says 'do you want to take the tube?' either get the hell out of there or punch them in the face.

I think the Texan/American thing will be reversed in the UK, but I think most people won't mind either way - and I've met a grand total of two Americans in real life, so don't take my advice as gospel!

Also, don't stay in the south - they are all a bit weird :p Go have an adventure up North - at least try to visit Yorkshire for a bit. Why visit New York when you can go to Old York? :D

Best advice ever...visit Chester the roman capital of Britain on your way to York. All Southerners are pick pockets who say things like 'well Jel' and 'Oh em gee'...the North is where you'll meet the real people of the UK...we're a lot like Texans!

Plus...keep in mind ALL Londoners talk like Dick van Dyke.

"Gawblimey guvnor,I'm takin' a ball 'o' chalk dahn the frog 'n' toad in me best whistle, wiv me dicky dirt matchin' me peckham rye and me daisies bein' double-busy,John".

This is a common greeting when meeting a Londoner for the first time-particularly if the person in question is wearing a suit covered in mother-of-pearl buttons.

These people are most amiable and will gladly assist visitors to London in easing the uncomfortable weight of your wallet.

What part of Michigan were you in? Couldn't have been in Upper Michigan, were all adorably polite.
