A soup redolent of the salty ocean air is a good thing. A soup that tastes like ocean water is not. If you have been a little too generous on the salt, add an acid to counteract it. Try vinegar or citrus juice. You can also cut up a raw potato, add it to the dish, and simmer for 20 minutes. The potato will absorb some of the salt. Be sure to remove the potato pieces before serving.

Awesome tips! I've had so many dishes botched over the years just because I accidentally oversalted them during cooking. Although recently I've taken to the practice of not salting too much while cooking and letting those who eat the food (even if it's just me) salt to taste. I'm also trying to retrain my taste buds to like a little less salt, because I tend to like salt a bit too much and am concerned for health reasons.
