YogaOf Love created a thread on "Bands that are out there" So I decided to start a new one with a different title. I'll start with a weird band I think is quite interesting. The Residents. http://www.residents.com
YogaOfLove: i like to listen to a lot of music that is basically just out there or weird, and most of my friends dont like it, but i was wondering if any of you guys listen to some good bands that have a unique sound. some of my favorite bands are small time ones whos cds i bought in the dollar bin, but man they sound amazing! Any Suggestions? exhibita: The debut 'Meet The Residents' is a good starting point or maybe the more broader audience friendly 'Wormwood' and 'Residue Deux'.

I agree, I'll never forget the first time I saw them...seeing these 2 tiny japanese women and 2 tiny japanese men making this crazy intense noise....after every song "sank you" They are touring the US again this spring
Watch out for your eardrums! It's The Happy Flowers!! http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/MrHCIHF/ A duo consisting of Mr. Anus and Mr. Horribly Charred Infant.
Masonna's "Inner Mind Mystique" is the most fucked up weird shit I've ever heard and shit would be the term I'd use to describe it too, some samples for your "pleasure" here http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00000384V/002-2588629-9565618?v=glance
Focus were a pretty unusual and inventive band that came out the Netherlands in the early and mid 70s. http://www.officialfocushomepage.nl/focushistory.htm Yodelling instead of vocals.. Instrumentals that sounded like classical music but with beautiful guitar work by Jan Akkerman.. You can have a listen to their best work here... http://www.zolderkamer.net/Muziek/Focus/ Hocus Pocus (the yodelling song) - was their one and only 'hit'. Sylvia - is a beautiful guitar driven instrumental (I think there's some chanting or something in it but its an instrumental). It's the polar opposite of Hocus Pocus. House of the King - sounds medieval-ish and not unlike Jethro Tull's best stuff with its flute work and acoustic break.
Thanks. It's been a very long time since I last heard this. I think House of the King resembles JT. I'd rank Focus as progressive or psychedelic. Very tasteful weird. Then there's the Butthole Surfers. http://www.buttholesurfers.com Catigorized as "Butthole" in their mp3 downloads but I think psychedelic punk might be an accurate term.
Hi Seamonster - I thought I was the only person who listened to The Fall - awesome band aren't they? I have never come across anyone who listens to them before.
ANR www.awesomenewrepublic.com they're friends of mine and they're somewhat on a new-wave thing, really good shit.
