I smoked some 5x salvia extract last week and I had an out of body experience.
I "was" tiny and running toward my full size body. All I could hear was my sister trying to talk to me, but she sounded very distant. Even though I was running toward myself I didn't get any closer. I popped back and forth between my body, staring at where my tiny self was, and my small self running on the coffee table. When it ended I was back in my body asking how long I was gone. It had seemed like hours, maybe days, but the response was "three and a half minutes". That was my first experience with salvia divinorum.

Has anyone else ever experienced something like this?

Ha, welcome to the first stages of enlightenment. If you stay on the right path, eventually you will see yourself from an enourmous distance. I won't get into a discussion about whether this purly a sensation within the mind/body or if your consciouness really seperates from the brain, but that has been my experience. At some point you will see how small and insignificant you are. this is a huge relief and humbling too, though you should be unaware of the humility. Anyway, all the knowledge in the universe is right in your mind, no shit!

it seems like you guys should try to relax and think about what is happening to you, rather than being so startled and running back to your bodies.

This is almost exactly how I felt the first time I smoked salvia. Not only did I leave my body, but i left this world, and my existance. Like the universe unfolded before me. Like i was a part of the afterlife. And there was a voice, and she told me not to be afraid, amongst other things I don't remember. And then "reality" started to form, and i once again took my physical form after seeing myself from 3rd person. And since that day (i've smoked once more since then) I've felt like this world isn't real, there is no death, in the next life nothing is confined to physical matter, and i could probobly go on and on.. Since I've smoked salvia i feel like i know somthing im not supposed to.

That's exactly right. And do you know how this can be described using scientific language? Quantum Mechanics. Just read some books on consiciouness and quantum mechanics and you will understand (to a degree) exactly the nature of your experience, and reality.

I suggest, for a real layman, reading "Physics Encounter Consciouness: Quantum Enigma". If you read that and "The Psychedelic Experience" by Timothy Leary it's all you need to know for an introduction.

Just remember, as Leary sort of demonstrates without really saying so, different cultures and indviduals will use different modes of expression, language and symbolism to describe the same thing. Just because someone may not be able to articulate an idea or experience in a commonly understood parlance of the time and place, it's really just a function of semantics. You can feel/know something is right even if you don't possess the words to describe it.

In the world of scientifc speech and knowledge, quantum mechanics describes much the same as Leary (who re-intrepts Eastern views) and even your own thoughts and observations as you desribed in the post.

It may sound odd to some, but I've had the experience at some points of seeming to have the choice of whether or not to leave "permanently" my physical self. I think I only brushed up against this, but it's a notion captured in many forms of cultural expression throughout human history. Contemporarily speaking, just think of Dave Bowman in 2001 or even Dr. Manhattan in the Watchmen.

Most people never gain the knowledge that what they see as of their own conscience is not their own, but just part of the Universe's awareness of itself.

You can blame that on culture. For the mind to be aware of these things it must reach a state of peacfulness (peace of mind) rarely seen or even valued anymore in Western cultures.

Peronally, I simply think substances like Salvia don't actually do anything but allow the possibility to exist for the physical brain to reach it's a pure form of peacefullness. For an anology consider: can you ever see byond the horizon if there are mountains in the way? Or on a placid lake you can relax and see unperturbed great distances on a boat, as opposed to being tossed about in a storm. It takes peace of mind to be able to gain a greater awareness.

To me a perfect world is one in which there are no conscious forms of life. Conscious life is an accident of evolution, when the mind of a creature evolves over time to become complex and sophisticated enough to light up, so to speak, to exist sort of as a quantum computer.

And unfortunately, conscious life seems to have consequence of always unbalancing nature. And if you talk about nature it's always about balance, whether it's a physical system such as the weather or animal, wolves, for example, and the abundance of prey and vice versa.

    ...ok enough BS...

Thank you for refering me to those books. After my own experiences, and reading through a couple of threads on this forum, I am convinced that there are other dimentions, and they are just as "real" as this life we live on Earth. This is a subject that fascinates me, and beginning with those books, it's probobly a topic I will study for the rest of my life.

String theory predicts something like 11 dimenions. Now this all comes from scientific study -- modern physics -- not philosophy, mysticism or tokers.

Watch the Elegant Universe on Nova from PBS for an intro:

I've actually seen many of the things they speak about in these videos, mind you this first I've heard of the string theory. I can't begin to descibe some of the visions I've had on Salvia, but I could compare one point to feeling like I, along with others in that realm, together were a ray of light illuminating from a great source, or a beam from a rainbow. I also came to the conclusion that everything on Earth is made up of energy, but could never really express that theory due to my limited scientific vocabulary. I've seen a vortex open to a parallel dimention, and watched it for a good short period of time while I teethered on the brink of reality and being sucked into it, I remember that vision as clear as day. It looked like all the colors around me melting into a portal about 5 intches in diameter, and about 5 feet away from me. Of course I could never prove any of this, but it was so real to me, there is not a second I doubt any of it.

What your desribing is also described in modern physics, but of course using more scientific language and actual experimentaion through scientific method. You're talking about the Zero Point Field. There's a book on this for layman called "The Field". I'm not a great fan of it, but it's alright. There's a chapter called "Sea of Light" and another called "Beings of Light". Keep in mind this book is not some new age crap, it's portends to be scientific.

This book was published in 2002, so 7 years have passed which means theories have advanced. There's probably more on this theory now.

Thanks again for these book references. Right now I'm reading Quantum Enigma, I'm at the part of the book where they describe everything being made up of + electric molecules. Hence our sense of touch, being that our + molecules repel the + molecules of the objects that we are touching. They say that all our senses are made up of these electric forces. So far, the book's quite interesting.

OBE is VERY common with salvia. Heres an expirence I had last year... Ok, so I smoked some weed (which I think is partially why I had such an intense expereince) than half an hour later I was like, "ok I'm gonna smoke ALLOT of salvia" so I completely packed my bowl, to the point where it would even be allot if it were pot (Also, because its important to know for this, I was smoking out my window). I obviously knew I had to go fast, so I was taking HUGE hits, and keeping them in for only as long as I needed to. After two hits I was starting to feel it, so I thought, "Shit I got to hurry". I remember taking a half ass hit, and then everything went black. For what seemed like forever, all I saw was black, and it was if my mental function had just stopped, I had no opinion of what was happening, but I was aware of it happening. Soon, I looked up, and saw my room window, as if I was laying on my driveway, two floors down. I could see my room light on, and then I walked up to my window. Oddly enough, seeing myself in my room didn't jump out as weird, but I started to panick for a second, thinking I fell out my window and was paralized. As it turns out, I really just ended up on the ground in my room, I'm not sure if I fell, or just slumped down, fuck, maybe I was even moving around, but who knows. If you've ever seen Fear and Loathing, its like when duke is walking through the trashed house, and is looking around and sees himself across the room and shit "oh shit thats me", then he wakes up in that body, disoriented. Anyway, thats kind of what it was like, and believe me, crazy shit went on for a few more minutes.
