Our Sense of Smell

I like fried foods, I'm a sucker for that.

 

Damn!!

 

Yes...the smell of fried chicken, fried fish, etc. My weakness!

 

That's a very refreshing smell. Smelled that for many years, and it's the thing I remember the most every time I roll through NC.

 

I really like the smell of good weed. Cliche, I know.

All weed smells the same to me. Can you actually smell the difference in some weed?

 

i grew up in the sierra mountains near donner pass. that was the smell of home.

 

My heart belongs in the western NC mountains. You describe the scenery and smell so perfectly

 

Hell yes can tell the difference. Especially with good weed vs. bad weed. Good weed always has a pungent, floral, dank smell.

 

Oh ok, didn't know this. I must have been smelling crappy weed around here then. Nothing floral about what I've smelled, that's for damn sure.

The sense of smell is fascinating because no matter how much we’ve advanced technologically there’s still no practical method of artificially measuring the sense of smell (olfaction) or even quantifying it.


There’s voice recognition technology (sound) and facial (vision) and even touch (somatosensation) but smell and taste (gustation) remains elusive.

 

Well, how do they know that certain animals can pick up scents miles and miles away? There has to be a way to gauge that for humans as well. Maybe ours is limited for a reason.
