I was talking to a (female) friend of mine about how much trouble I've had in meeting girls since breaking up with my gf over the summer. Apparently in an attempt to be nice, she said "Well, I was thinking of setting you up with a friend of mine, but she's wants somebody hot and you're a hidden gem."

Wow. 'hidden gem'? Talk about cruel...

Anyway that's been botheirng me since she said it.

when i first met dave, he was more clark kent than superman. the whole point being that he wasn't so consumed with appearances that he was a strutting peacock 24/7. and the less intelligent women out there wouldn't bother to take notice. now they're all over him. haha. i was first.

Hmmm I take that more as an insult to her friend. Basically that girl is more concerned with looks....and your friend may have meant that you just aren't that other girls type. Trust me it is better to be a gem. ;)

    Good point.

You probably ought to request that she not proceed with that fix-up. Better to be appreciated for what you are than having someone attempt to fashion you into something you're not. Shallow women who are only interested in "hot" will likely value you about the same as a wardrobe accessory.

Or maybe your friend desperatly wants to be with you. so she couldn't bare to set you up with someone else.

Grab her by her waist, look deep into her eyes, and tell her to grab some sushi with you. Tell her that her beauty haunts your dreams.

    Get on it tiger!

Well it'd be easier to take it as a compliment if it weren't for the word 'hidden'. It's one thing to say I'm not shallow and so shallow people won't like me, but calling my value 'hidden' is kind of rough.

Because, after all, i'm not hidden. I'm right here! It's not like I'm the man in the iron mask or something.

no, but since she's a friend of yours, i'm more inclined to believe that she sees a value there that you're not making a point to throw in other people's faces. a kind of modesty that's rare among a lot of men.
