not sure if this is really the most approperate forum to ask this but meh oh well Other than oil what does the US trade (buy from) with the Middle East?
This isnt about "buying" from the middle east, this is about subjugating those nations which stand against Washington's (and partners') designs to "control" the resources of countries in the region. The difference is vast considering hegemony means the profits accrue to OUR MNC's (and their complicit political puppets) and not the people nor nations to which the resources actually belong.
The Middle East is much more diverse in terms of resources then just oil. There are substantial minerals and metals in the middle east, Uranium, and agricultural markets. The Middle East could compete in a global market if it shifted it's markets for non oil development. Some of the oil rich nations have been pretty active in developing other markets. If you want to look at a real successful market in the middle east, check out the United Arab Emirites. I think they have Michael Jackson now too.
There are cheap alternatives already, but the Petroleum companies are only interested in their returns and their lobby is so strong, it will be a cold day in hell before the western world becomes aware of them. The unrest in the middle east also benefits the huge industrial military complex, who share sympathies and stockholders with the petroleum industry.
If the Middle East contains a large quantity of Uranium, then I'd think that the US would be after that just as much as the oil. I think the government rather have uranium in their own hands rather than leave it in a country that they distrust.
Why do we have a right to tell another country how to manage it's own natural resources, we haven't done all that well managing our own.
Nobodys 'telling' anyone how to cotrol anything. He was just asking about resources in the Middle East. Seaweed, the Uranium deposits in the middle east are places you wouldn't really think of as 'hot spots'. Kazakhstan, Turkmenestan, Uzbekistan.
well believe it or not, the west imported 390,000 tons of camel dung from the middle east as well as nearly 2 trillion tons of sand. A friend of mine bought a saudi watch and another friend brought an israeli candlestick.
