Curious as to how many of you believe that Halloween is the "devils night". I know a lot of Christians around here are opposed to it. This is just to clear some things up: The origins of Halloween come from anciet Celtic customs. At that time, October marked the end of the calender year. On the eve of October 31st, a feast was prepared to celebrate the bounties of the harvests, and to prepare for the winter season and the advent to come. On All Hallows Eve, the souls of the dead were also honored. On this night, gourds or turnips were hollowed out and candles or lumps of embers were placed inside. The gourds were placed on windowsills to welcome to spirits of deceased ancestors, and to ward off evil spirits. Irish imigrants began the use of pumpkins when they came to America. They were easy to come by and equally easy to carve. Small cakes were left on doorsteps to keep hungry evil spirits from entering the homes. Because it was believed that spirits and ghosts roamed the land freely on All Hallows Eve, costumes and masks were worn to confuse the evil spirits, and avoid being know by the ghosts. Restless or evil spirits would be unable to detect who's home belonged to whom as the people traveled to and from the festivals.
i oppose it coz of the devil worshippness. Hallowe'en was created as a night to worship the devil and so as a christian i oppose it. Roly.xxx p.s. i was gunna make a post about that!!!
Halloween is so misinterpreted by many people. I know about the origins and I know there isn't any devil worshiping involved with it. I like Halloween, I'm being Jimi Hendrix.
My step-mother doesn't let her kids go out trick-or-treat'ing. I think it is the stupidest thing. She got real upset with me and my father for dressig them up one year to hand out candy to the kids that came to the door. Even though it was clothes they already had (coyboy hats and boots). It's true that celtics had a celebration from October 31st to Nov 2nd. But it wasn't to worship the devil (people that think that need to actually read up on it, instead of just regurgitating what they are told. It's all in the history books.) Their celebration was called Samhain and it was a time to go crazy and relieve stress. Men dressed like women, women like men etc, everyone just acted silly. NO DEVIL WORSHIPING AT ALL!! http://inventors.about.com/library/weekly/aahalloweena.htm http://www.watchman.org/occult/samhain.htm http://www.celticspirit.org/samhain.htm
i have a different take on the origins of halloween. the druids would carve out turnips and put candles in them and then go door to door in the villiages and the people had to give them food or a evil spirit would come out of the turnip and stay in the house doing evil things untill the next halloween and the people had to give food or worse stuff would happen.
i do agree that halloween has alot to do with devil worship BUT going trick or treating is not a form of devil worship.
How does halloween have anything to do with devil worshipping? All I have ever heard of that is people claiming it does, bet never how... Besides, I have never met anyone that actually worshipped the devil....
I believe the benign version Sera Michele gave.. All this devil worship rubbish is probably been added by christian minded individuals to dispell celtic ? pagan ? beliefs . Its probably also been ramped up like santa clause to sell products and have ANOTHER time of year when people have money forcibly removed from their wallets/purses.
hallows all hallows eve all saints day pagan & christian mid-seasonal celebrations, springing from the same source... the world turns, the seasons come and go, the wheel of life and death keeps a'rollin' on... blessed be peace be with you namaste
all saints day is november first. october 31 is the major day for witches. so that's another way that it has to do with devil worship. people dress up as ghosts and witches and other evil things like that.
Have you not read all the information given? Halloween is not at all about devil worship, and never was. It is simple historical fact. Doesn't matter what people dress up as today.
Indeed. It is does have many pagan roots. Many of these traditions are now called Wiccan. This practice is based of the appreciation of nature and earth and never had anything to do with the devil. The tradition of treating pagans as satanists beagn with the inquisitions, so that 'righteous' people had a good excuse to burn someone at the stake.
the idea about pegan being satanic is because pegans believe that they can get powers from the earth. christians believe that there are only two places to get power from, God and Satan. so since they are not getting their powers from God then it's coming from satan. that's what that is all about and why halloween is a very spiritual event. and yes sarah i did read and if you read any of my other posts you would see where i'm coming from
I believe that even if someone that dresses up as a witch or devil for halloween, even if they are doing it for pure fun and nothing else, it still give satan satisfaction and it is a celebration of evil to dress up in evil forms. thus devil worship
yeh the turnip thing is what i heard to.... that did used to happen ...fact....i think its wrong....so....only my opinon...no need to slate me for it
So if I dress up like Jesus it's OK? I think the evil man harbors in his heart is far more destructive than a devil suit. I think the devil, where he to exist, gets the most satifaction from those who judge others, yet pretend to walk in Jesus' footsteps.
To the 'Historian' who is explaining Halloween to everyone.. First off... there is simply a day in October. It comes and goes regardless of what culture did what during what century. Second.. I dont want to turn this into a definition game but since you want to call it Halloween then we should define Halloween as Halloween. - Its All Hallow's Eve Hallow 'een for those enjoying Olde English All Saints Day ..or "Hallowed's Day' (if you prefer) is Nov 1st. Its a Christian Celebration of great Saints in History. Now what did Pagans (whatever that is supposed to describe) do on the Last day of OCtober? Well.. clearly they renamed it Halloween after they largely converted to Christianity. If you want to celebrate something else besides Halloween and call it 'Pagan Witch Night' or 'Devils night' then go right ahead. Just dont confuse that with the Christian Celebration of Hallow'een. (mind you .. its too late now and basically its become Rowntree and Mars sales day)
