Orange peels in bud jar.

I have some buds right now that were extremely dry, and would basically crumble apart when you break it up. So I put about half an orange worth of peels inside the container overnight, and holy shit they got hydrated. Too much in fact.. so now I am leaving the lid off for a few hours. The weird thing is the buds smell almost like hay now. I seriously cannot smell cannabis when I stick my nose in the jar. WTF? Has anyone used this trick?

 

any citrus will work, and you (i) generally use about a 1"X1" square of peel per eighth, not much at all. the point is to slightly rehydrate, not completely. i very very rarely do this because its easy to overdo it, and end up with soggy moldy pot, and no one wants that.

it won't make your pot smell like hay, it will make them smell citrussy. but i find that bad pot really smells a lot like wet hay to begin with, and saying your pot was so dry, i'd tend to think this would be the case. its entirely possible that the moisture is messing with the plant matter somehow in a way that will allow more smell to be given off, i suppose.

i very rarely do this and would not recommend it to anybody, because the possibility of ruining your weed is too much risk for what insignificant benefit you'll receive. i'll only do this in the event that i get really shitty pot and need to do SOMETHING to help it get at least SLIGHTLY better. most often it's done by dealers who buy large amounts of shitty mexican weed and use this to somewhat improve both appearance and smell, but more importantly to make the pot weigh more. this is, needless to say, entirely unethical business practice, and should never be done by anyone who values their customers or their digits and as of yet unscarred face....of course its perfectly fine to do this to your personal stash, though, assuming you're willing to risk making it overly moist.

Well shit, I hope I didn't ruin it. btw, I would definitely call this shitty pot. It has a good high and flavor, but I think it was harvested early and the buds are really small. I'm sure it was kiefed too, it came from an acquaintance not anyone trusted.

 

I think the smell is probably because it's so dry to begin with, that it just smells that way from being soggy and overhydrated. I wouldn't rehydrate really dry weed because thats just making it really wet, not what you (I) want. I'd maybe keep a little bit of peel in a jar of drying weed so that it doesn't dry out TOO quickly, or in the case of curing weed, for the same reason.
