Well, it seems that our very own Oprah is feeling rather stung because she was recently not allowed to shop (she was hoping to find a nice watch for Tina Turner) at a way fancy shop in France.

    Peace,

    PD

  2. maybe they did it because it's oprah and they feel above that, I mean the production quality of her show isn't great for how much they spend on it, plus they do some really stupid things..... I can see turning her away because it was her.....

maybe they had a relative who was a beef farmer......

I just heard about that... I mean fucking aye, she was fifteen minutes beyond their closing time. I say fucking right to the store for not making an exception merely because it's Oprah. :D

Okay, but supposedly there were other people in the store at the time. So Oprah seems to believe she was refused service because of her race. I'm not even certain they knew who she was? They just saw a black woman, and probably figured she wouldn't make such a great customer. And had no true idea of her great wealth and fame.

    Peace,

Actually I heard she was refused because they didn't recognize her without her hair done. No makeup and no hair spray makes Oprah a sad girl. No joke!

Ever been in a store when they're closing? They may still have a few customers there who were already there, but once they're closed they are just trying to get the remaining customers dealt with so they can shut things down and get out of there. That doesn't work so well if you still let more people in.

Yawn. Oprah may be yours but she is not mine. She is a freak in the bad sense. She is a pop icon and nothing more. In my world file her with Britney Spears in the trash can labled vomit.

  10. I was trying to get at that a little too.....

Exactly. So the store clerk (and manager) just saw a very plain black woman (plus some of her black friends) and didn't like what they saw. So they used the lame excuse of the store being closed. They did not know it was Oprah until after the fact. If it had been somebody like Elizabeth Taylor instead, the store would have suddenly opened its doors again. Big time. So this is more about race.

    Peace,

Actually, I give a fuck whenever somebody is discriminated against. Period. Because they are black, gay, poor or whatever. Maybe you should read the entire post before leaving such an idiotic comment? The store did not know it was Oprah. Hello? They only saw a black woman, and acted accordingly. Sorta sad that you think that is an acceptable way to treat people.

    Peace,

    PD

Gosh, did you come up with that all by yourself? I am truly impressed. Yawn. BTW, do you think it is cool to refuse service to somebody because of the color of their skin? Why not share some of your brilliant insights on that one, instead of simply bashing Oprah big time?

    Peace,

    I don't agree w/discrimination either.

Does anyone know for a fact what time she attempted to enter the store?
ie: after it's posted closing time?

Could it be she was expecting special treatment?

From what I heard it was something like 15 minutes past it's closing time.. Clearly she expected special treatment, and upon not getting such she wants to make it a big deal, so of course she is going to say it's a race issue.

  16. I'm all for descriminating for someone because they are a prat.....

if it was her skin colour it was bad, but it was 2 guys, not a huge deal in the wash of things, bad but not huge, whereas if they knew it was oprah good for them, if I owned a shop and oprah came in I'd turn her away for fucking the beef industry up the ass a few years ago.....

I don't think Oprah was discriminated agisnt at all. She was late. They weren't exceptiing anymore shoppers. She's Oprah, and she's African American therfore it must be rascism eh? No, it must be, you didn't get your way Oprah so that makes the stores owners bad people!

Actually, most of those high class stores have a doorman posted outside. And so they are always technically "closed" (until they decide you are worthy of stepping into their rich and sacred world). Then they will let you in. Unless you are an unknown black woman (Oprah is not nearly as well known in France as she is here in America). Then they come up with a convenient excuse to prevent you from entering the store. Again, they did not recognize Oprah. They thought she was just some black woman off the street. So that's why they said what they said. Those upper scale stores routinely allow famous clients to enter their stores after closing time. So there won't be so much chaos from fans and such. So this really is all about race. And I think Oprah has every right to be pissed off about it. Since when is it "special treatment" to be treated like a human being?

    Peace,

    PD

Hold on a sec, you just said that they routinely block ordinary people from entering the store. Also, you mentioned that Oprah is much more famous in the U.S. than in France. So, if she was not known in France, how were they to know she was as famous and rich as she is?

They may have profiled her because of her race, but how many Black female billionaires are there in the world, you know? If you were French and never heard of Oprah, there's a good chance you would have assumed she was just another crazy person trying to enter the store. Someone can just walk up to the door and say, "I am a billionaire talk-show host from x country. Let me in you racists/sexists/xenophobes!"

The thing is, these celebrities think they are above the rules; thus, they should be accommodated at all times. While Oprah may feel like she was treated unjustly, she merely experienced what people of all races experience all of the time.
