Opponent To Food Stamp Cuts

Rep. Jackie Speir (D CA) attempted to shame Republicans who want to cut the Food Stamp Program by $40M.

She cited one instance in which Rep. Steve King (R-IA) was given $3,588 to spend on food and lodging while in Russia for 6 days. She told him that he could have eaten on Food Stamps for 881 days for what he spent in Russia.

She challenged the supporters of the Food Stamp cuts to take the SNAP challenge and to try to survive on $4.50 a day.

I really liked one thing she said:

Ahem , so far in the past week. One young lady approached me in a grocery store wanting to sell her SNAP card.

The SNAP card has been a regular credit card used to purchase not only junk food , cigs and beer but 420 as well.

Speaking of 420 ; the gentleman manufacturing my edibles purchases ALL ingredients via his SNAP card.

Here in SC you get an EBT card (don't know what the initials stand for). This is the foodstamps program here. You can NOT buy:

cigs and beer but 420 as well.

Just my opinion: People should not be able to buy any type of alcohol, cigarettes, nor soft drink nor junk...and this "hitch" could be "fixed". The reason for the system in itself is a good, humane one. Its scary that the people in authority want to stop one of the few selfless things the gubmint does to help all people - regardless of the age, race or what you've done. In saying that, I feel like these jackasses in power (AND I DON'T MEAN OBAMA) will most likely "fix" this program, too.

An EBT card is a plastic card that won't even buy you hot food in this state...it must be unprepared; but its a Damn Good thing that this is available for those that need it.

"Food Stamps" and their massive proliferation became a pre election tool for the oby gang. Such graft has become so extreme that "snap parties" are encouraged by the regime. You see , shills are encouraged to host parties training fellow travellors how to join in. The logical progression of the welfare state would be the totalitarian state ; comrades , we have arrived.

Yanno , speaking of SC ; taking 26 to 77S the other day ; just noticed a billboard advertising SNAP parties. Disgusting. While oby has basically dropped any kind of qualification for participation ; nearly 40k , yearly , can be derived from the taxpayer. In this state you can use EBT to buy a prepared steak and lobster meal. I saw it on display a few days ago, with big signs and arrows saying " buy me with EBT".

I've seen obvious drug addicts selling their cards at the entrance of grocery stores too many times to count.

I'm not opposed to a social safety net. But once that net is used as a hammock I think it's time to reevaluate.

 

Both sides of the argument are totally fucked. Nobody "gets" what's going on. Well, few do.

I think anyone opposed should have to live on the amount that those who receive it do. That would not be an easy task.

I have no issue with those who need help having access to it. There are problems in the systems but that means fixing those rather than punishing those who do not abuse it.

As far as treats or such, if the person using it manages money well and is able to save a few dollars to buy a bag of cookies or a pop or a bag of chips, then it is a good thing. Being down on your luck does not mean you should never be able to have a treat that we all would take for granted.

 

What about buying a steak and lobster dinner with taxpayer money?

I'm not opposed to those needing help recieving it either. But it pisses me off to see it abused so blatantly. Too often the bleeding hearts seem to imply that anyone promoting reform is promoting the elimination of the system altogether.

 

Why, those motherfuckers are eating steak!!!!!!! god-dammit, when you're down and out--you have no right eating the food that should be reserved for those more worthy than you!!!! A lot 'a nerve if you ask me. What the fuck are these poor people thinking?

 

my $12hr job today may as well be my $3.20hr 1989 minimum wage job..
I get a full packet of snap. and buy sushi with them. I also buy other peoples snap, then I just go on a shopping spree.

unless I make $24.00 an hour. Ill still qualify for food stamps..

With so much food going to waste. the government should be feeding its people...

I dont see any problem with the snap system.
but I do see a problem with the SSI system. but thats another issue..

 

I once had a friend who worked for the food stamp office explain that it was my patriotic duty to apply for fs if I needed them in order to support the small farmer in the struggle against agribiz....

 

argument- over a few hundred dollars per individual person for nutrition..
