I've never thought to ask anyone about this but jesus, last night was insane.
I had having a very nice Nod while watching Repo Men. Next thing I know I'm lying there trying to scream because (yes, this is true) Clifford, that big red dog from the kids books, was just out of view and trying to kill me. I was absolutely terrified. It seems that almost every time I'm having a nod and I finally start crashing, I end up having night terrors. What I'm watching has nothing to do with it. Sometimes I'm lying in be with my wife and I think an alien (A grey with this big eyes) is behind me on the bed. I try to move and wake my wife but I just can't...

Anyone else ever experience this? Ug. I hope I'm not the only one..

It's called sleep paralysis, and the visions are called hypnogogic hallucinations.
I have them when using opaites up to 2 hours prior to falling asleep, almost every time, without fail.
I've been having them since I was about 5 years old, so pretty much all of my life. They are more psychedelic and terrifying to me than psychedelic trips themselves.
You are definitely not the only one. This is the reason Morphine was named after Morpheus, the god of dreams.

Also, I get this if I take a nap during the day, or have been drinking caffiene in excess. There are many causes for this, but if you have them often, opiates tend to gaurentee them.

i had to ask to have my morphine stopped because opf some really bad dreams in the hospital right after I crashed....nurse said i was the first ever to ask for less opiates as opposed to more opiates...in both dreams my legs would not work and i couldnt escape serious peril...it was horrible..never had a nightmare before in my life

I've had them with or without opiates but more often with them. Absolutely terrifying. It doesn't help that I often have panic attacks as well and these tend to trigger them after I manage to get up.

I still haven't found a really good method of forcing myself "awake". I have to try extremely hard to just move a limb. But if I manage to move a single body part more than a few inches I can almost always get out of it. Problem is, I'll nod again soon after and viola, rinse and repeat.

My grandfather had these from morphine in his final days. He said the morphine made him see hundreds of snakes and enemy soldiers in his room (He was a Korean War vet). He refused to take the morphine because of this so he ended up screaming perpetually from pain. Apparently it was so terrifying he'd rather have the pain.

I can relate to your grandfather (sorry about your loss). It's to the point now where I will only pop my items long before I go to bed. That way the nod isn't really there nor is the high. It's just way too scary especially considering I have a hint of sleep apnea and not sure if the night paralysis combined with it could cause more problems.

I don't really have any sort of out-of-body-experiences but the trying to yell, move even make grunting noises is the worst part. I can't do any of it.

I've only done Oxy maybe 30 time, Hydro 30-40 times, and morphine maybe 50 times. I've never experienced any of this though.

When I heard my grandfather was getting these terrors from the morphine and he was dieing of some kind of intestinal cancer I told him that marijuana could DRAMATICALLY reduce his pain but he grew up in the 40s and didn't want to try it or learn about its medicinal benefits.

    And it was never enough
And it was never enough now
    That heroin stuff
    Traveling through daddy's arm now

Cuffed in that junk who knows if I would survive
Once you start shooting, forget living life
Lost in your shadows, no soul, no backbone
Sucked in, locked down, spinning breakdown, heroin whores

    Everybody's talking about heroin dreams...

What the fuck you gonna do with the rest of your life?

Scream at me, back slap me, chew off my ears
And I can't stop this sickness, I've been trying for years
Deeper and deeper lies, sensational fears
They're here just to guide you as we age through the years

    Everybody's talking about heroin dreams...
What the fuck you gonna do with the rest of your life?
What the fuck you ganne do with the rest of your time?

I've had them a few times without being under the influence but I have them almost every single time I'm on opiates. It's so odd.

It's really not odd, at all. It's more than fairly common, it's a prevalent side effect. Unless you mean that the dreams / hallucinations are odd, in which case I whole heartedly agree, they are some of the most bizarre experiences one can have.
Have you ever seen the movie Once Upon A Time In America? The opening scene where Robert De Niro is in the opium den is a very cool portrayal of this, when he dreams and the telephone rings constantly throughout the whole thing. Pretty awesome movie, it's MAD long though.

It cuts out right when he starts dreaming, but you get the picture. It also has one of the best endings I've ever seen in a movie, totally glorifies opiate use throughout the whole film haha

I get these alot since starting opiates for chronic pain.I didn't know it was the pills causing it for quite awhile, thought I was starting to lose my marble for awhile there. Was quite a relief when I finally found out the cause. Now I try not to dose to near bedtime.
