Hi, I've been reading Mckenna's True Hallucinations and I'm quite curious about the "Oo-koo-he" he mentions. The autor doesn't really get into much detail about it, focusing mostly on psylocibes and DMT and the interactions with Banisteriopsis Caapi's MAOI. I've searched the web for some info but haven't really found any. All I know is what's in the book: it's some sort of resin which supposedly contains DMT and perhaps MAOI. Has anyone ever seen or heard of this? Is it real? Are there any recipes? Any info would be great. Thanks
i think McKenna uses the term "Oo-koo-he" for Ayahuasca or yage. It's a South American brew made from the Banisteriopsis Caapi. It's active ingredients are DMT and an MAOI. It is taken orally. There are recepies online, usually they include Banisteriopsis Caapi (mostly MAOI but some DMT) and Psychotria Viridis (DMT) or Diplopteris Cabarana (DMT/5-mao-DMT)
That explanation crossed my mind, but he actually describes the Oo-koo-he as something solid, and he mentions the ayahuasca infusion as a separate thing. He does manage to get the substance from a local, but fails to get a psychedelic experience from it, he also mentions testing the substance for DMT in Stockholm, with positive results. And that's where the information stops. According to McKenna, the problem with Oo-koo-he is all the secretism about the subject among the Witoto people (which hold the secret of it's recipe and use for shamanic purposes). Thanks for the reply anyway!
sounds like a resin-based ayahuasca. maybe whats left in the cauldron as "scum" can actually be taken?
I accidently came accross a plant from the Virola genus browsing an online headshop, and apparently the resin of the plant contains DMT and MAOI. I also found this: "Other tribes, especially the Bora and Witoto, swallow pellets made from the paste of the resin, valuing for this purpose V. peruviana, V. surinamensis, V. theiodora, and possibly V. lorentensis. There is a vague evidence that shamans in Venezuela may smoke the bark of V. sebifera "at dances when curing fevers" or that they may boil the bark and drink the liquor "to drive away evil spirits." http://www.biopark.org/virola.html Everything points to the virola, mistery solved I guess. Thanks for the replys anyway, and if anyone has tried this Virola I'm very interested in hearing about the effects!
