a word of advise, more often than not no picker in their right minds would reveal their favorite picking spots, especialy on the internet, and as much as I love everyone I wouldnt tell anyone my spots. sorry I couldnt be of more help, good luck on your quest. 5 dollars a gram is pretty pricey.
hmmmmm i dont recall asking for peoples favorite picking spots AT ALL im asking for pointers oh and a word of advice for future posters if you dont have anything to say in relaation to my thread please dont bother posting thankyou
Im just sayin, alot of shroom pickers are pretty crazy and may tell ya some crazy shit where to pick shrooms, ive heard about people getting pointed towards twaked out rednecks up on the mountain defending their crop with their stolen AK-47 over morels, they just taste good they dont fuck you up any. Mighty tasty they are, some of my cultivating buddies have been trying to grow them, they got healthy mycelial growth but are unable to induce fruiting. they're efforts with the cyans has lacked clout, which I believe can be corrected by puttin lots of hippy energy on em and try putting em outdoors where they belong, indoor refrigerated conditions are not where the sacred fungi belong. we believe the sacred fungi is best when it is grown in the earth for it has the ability to suck up energy from the earth to produce more psilocybin crystals and other good alkaloids, when you grow them in a jar they dont have connection to earth and therefor lack the ability to truly be the flesh of gods for as i see it the earth, it's our mother, so yup thats it. Lately I have been having really bad nasty shitty bouts of DR and a lil DP, so ive been kinda grumpy and have been trying to drown it with liquor so I have not been straight thinking, and typing has become incredible difficult, the keys are moving up and down and left and right and up and down, fuck now they're going to alphebet soup. so if I come across as a douche bag sorry i try not too I don't know about your area as far as what mushrooms ya guys got growing around ya and what the terrain and climate is like, but I'll tell ya about the picking in my areas, may help ya I dunno . When I first started picking it was with a crazy old hippy in the backwoods of eastern tennessee, in the spring time out there it's real super warm and wet super wet and sticky, and in the spring the cow fields would explode with cubes and shitloads of liberty caps and we would eat them and fry our brains. that was a long time ago... Most of my picking was on the north coast of california and in Oregon along it's coast. There I picked cyans, cubes, liberty caps and other other random tidbits like amanita muscaria, which by far has to be one of my favorite mushrooms for it is the greatest teaching mushroom i have ever ingested. the cyans are a lovely mushroom much sought by myco-heads, in this case leave early damnit, seriously the early bird gets the worm, or in our case the tripper that has their shit straight finds the patch first. that cyans are wood lover, they love to eat wood chips, especialy chopped up branches of alder and some others, look in flower beds, around buildings, anywhere mulched, in the fall when it gets chilly they fruit, they're small with a white stem that bruises blue easily, caramel brown to coppery brown or even tan cap that gets all wavy when it gets older. the cubes can be found in cow pats in spring, summer and occassionally fall. they like it when it is warm and damp, humid... be careful, farmers watch their fields with nightvision and semi auto shotguns loaded with rock sallt and bacon bits, and every so often also have electric fences meant to keep cows in, the jolt one of those gives wasnt meant for the world of the human but the poor sad miserable life of a cow, be careful. liberty caps are often plentiful when you find them and your gonna need to eat a bunch of them. they can be found in cow fields with the tall grass, or just tall grass, ive found them growing out of and abandoned set of railroad tracks in Arcata, careful though, some fields yield fuckin shitloads of them and the pigs know it, and they're watching often enough, walking your fine but as soon as you assume the psilocybe stoop they're on your ass. Avoid other pickers in the field ive met a fair amount that all twaked out go psyco on you ass cause they think your picking their shrooms. Amanita Muscaria grows abundant in coniferous forest in the colder rainy areas ive found to be true, they like stands of pine trees I have found, they're are dirt shit easy to find, they're just fucking screaming at you. last fall was the last time I picked the amanita, after a good rain we were blessed with a fairy ring of prime beautiful amanitas under a tree in a spot we had been nurturing, we also went and explored the country side which revealed shitloads more, you could look out the window of your car and spot them... I was taught a lesson by the sacred Amanita which I appreciate and hold very dear even though it twisted the shit outa my head for a little while. my two sides are begining to russle around im signing out on this for i cant think very straight. oh yeah a piece of advice i was given about picking, dont get tunnle vision looking for that mushroom laced with the magic, but you should really get your self a good mushroom book, my personal favorite is Mushrooms Demystefied by whats his name......... i dont remember at the moment. but instead of looking for magic mushrooms, you look for mushrooms and try to figure out with a good book what they may be and through looking at shitloads of random mushrooms you're head will become acclimated to discerning mushroom caps from leaves and what not. by learning the traits of other mushrooms it's easier to use keys to figure things out when you eventualy find the possible teacher.
yeah, like, the other day, i got some wild boomers, and, like, they were packed with, like, psilocybin crystals and stuff, like, you could hold them up, like, to the sun and stuff, and they would, like, sparkle like christmas tree ornaments an stuff anyway.... i'm not 100% positive, but i hate to tell you i fear your search will be entirely FRUITless sorry to say, but i'm down in Ohio, and even here the climate isnt warm enough long enough to be conducive to wild cubes. they just dont grow here. and i'm afraid that they just aren't likely to be found in ontario. in fact, i'd be surprised if there were any species of mushroom containing usable quantities of the goodness that grow in ontario. you're far better off growing your own. 5 dollars a gram is just about right, but ONLY if the cubensis mushrooms are dried. that makes 3g cost $15...or 4g for $20...that over an eighth for twenty bucks, while most folks in the midwest pay 25-35USD for an eighth if they dont grow there own or take trips to the bountifully mushroom populated states for a Field Trip..... now if you were to go out to the canadian southwest to the cost in BC, you could find conditions conducive to wild populations of several species actually more desirable than wild cubensis. i've heard its true that wild cubes are more potent than those grown via PF Tek or even with whole grains, but that its easy for experienced growers to equal the quality by growing on other substrates, like pasteurized cow/horse dung. growing "in the earth" will not increase the psilocybin content as such, it has entirely got to do with what nutrients are provided. anyways, in ontario you'd be best to buy them or grow your own. i believe there are more lax laws in canada as to what is and isnt legal in terms of growkits, and you can probably even order the colonized growbox kits where all you need to do is induce fruiting.... even if i'm mistaken on that point, growing via the PF Tek is easy as pie. it may not produce the best mushrooms in the world, of course, but in my experience freshly picked mushrooms, even grown from BRF cakes, far outperform mushrooms bought from others, most of which are old, abused, weak, and usually in my experience the bag is short. i definitely encourage learning about home cultivation and pursueing it whenever you can. its a wonderful educational experience, saves you a ton of money, provides with many wonderful trips, avoids giving money to shady folks for drugs, and avoids any possibility of accidentally mistakening nonpsychoactive or even poisonous mushrooms for the ones you actually want!
btw, its been a while since ive been to toronto (toronto and stratford are two of my favorite vacation spots within driving distance) but i definitely recall the name of ajax on the map, and if its 30 miles its not too far to drive to toronto.... so instead of having to order online like i always have to do, if i'm not mistaken you could even just drive to a store and pay cash for spores. i am pretty certain that T.H.C. (toronto hemp company) sells spores, as well as a number of other good headshops. i dont remember ever having gone to ajax, so i can't say i know how big it is or if there are good headshops there, but if there are theres also a good chance they carry spores at a store there.
thankyou for your help although nothingyou said is new to me and because you are not familiar with the are your post to me is completely useless information im not new to this by any means i dont need to go to toronto i have no shortage of shrooms where i am at all i just want to pick some natural ones plenty of peopel around here pick their own GUH you internets people frustrate me just ansewrt the questionsi asked PLEASE once again please dont post unless you have something to say that relates directly to my thread THANK YOU
Sorry about that absolutely insane insane post, my other side popped out while under the influence of alcohol trying to drown the DR a lil, and it got all looped out. Been hanging out with too many crazy old hippys, they beleifs about the fungus get caught in my head. the best book out there for magic mushroom hunting is Psilocybin Mushrooms of the World by Paul Stamets, it's a nice book, get it. getting a HEPA from him soon
god damn. how did that not relate to your thread by telling you that you almost certainly wont find magic mushrooms in the area? its entirely the wrong climate to find cubes, and probably almost every other mushroom. you'll almost certainly have to grow them if you want to get them fresher and less expensive than you'll get from buying them. look. this is a picture of a plant hardiness zone map for north america: almost all of ontario is in zone 2, some in zone 3. mushrooms occur mostly in zones 10 through 7, with some species able to live in zone 6. you're certainly not going to find psilocybe cubensis in any cow pastures out there, and the winters are too hard for woodloving mushrooms found in the northwest (like P. azurescens) to live there. before you go off talking about how this doesnt "directly relate" to your question again, let me make it a little less cryptic: wheres a good mushroom picking spot? way the fuck south or way the fuck west.
teehee i made you angry!!! =0 THANK YOU! and i dont know how to tell you this but youuuurrrr waaaay the fuck wronnngggg mushrooms do grow in southern ontario!! maybe not cubes but they do i know a couple old hippies around here that used to pick their mushrooms but beacuse they are friends parents they wont tell me although theyllsmoke my weed LOL
those old hippys will somtimes do that, tell ya a buncha tall tales about the good ol' days and smoke up all your weed, watch out!
actually the area she lives in on that map is area 5, same with me so really, she should be able to find them fine according to your little map.
wooooooaaaaaahhh....I totally did not read the post i quoted properly....jeez I do feel dumb now.....k, wrong, unlikely to find shrooms here i guess (if nesta is correcto)...
OKay, hold the phone here.....Nesta when you said mushies wont grow in areas 5 and below, were you refering to all mushies or just the magical kinds, cuz i have definitely seen reg mushrooms in area 4 and maaaayybe 3 (not too sure about that one)....
plenty of mushrooms grow in zones 5 and lower (err, colder/farther north) the most common, easily identifiable psilocybian mushroom, Psilocybe cubensis, the fabled dung-loving magic mushroom of the tropics and sub-tropics, will never grow there. its an except of the rule for them to even exist in most of zone 6. cubes are, for magic mushrooms, relatively easily identified. other magic mushrooms, such as P. azurascens and P. cyanescens grow in much colder climates than cubes do, but the issue is only sort of related to temperature and humidity. these types tend to prefer areas with mild weath ALL YEAR ROUND. the best place in north america to be likely to find these mushrooms are in coastal areas of the pacific northwest. i'm certainly no expert on the plant hardiness zones, but the way i understand it, it works more based on the extremes of the climate. for instance, i'm in zone five, and get pretty rough winters (ok, i'm a sissy from ohio who HATES the cold, and you folks up north get it worse, i know) yet there are desert states also in zone five, whereas farther north and WAAAAAY west they enjoy the benefits of being part of zones seven, and in some slightly more southern areas even zone eight. this, i think, is because while it never gets HOT, and it doesnt get very warm until the middle of summer (i just visited vashon island at the end of june and was chilly most of the time, dressing in layers!) yet in the winter, as i understand it, it rarely actually drops below freezing very often, despite being so far north. this type of climate is mild enough all year round that organisms like the woodloving mushrooms can thrive here, and keep growing in the same place for years without having the mycelium completely killed off by freezing cold or extreme heat or dryness. this would NOT be the case in ontario, or most of canada for that matter, where frigid winters and warm summers, along with less rainfall, would NOT be conducive to providing a suitable habitat for the woodloving psilocybes. too many extremes. the two psilocybian mushrooms i can think of that you have a chance of locating are in fact pretty much "undesirable"...one is Panaeolus subbalteatus which is weaker even than cubes, and said to cause greater stomach upset. the other is even weaker still, and generally only useful in combination with an MAO inhibiting drug. i think the spelling is Gymnopilus spectabilis. both look a lot like other fungi and are NOT suitable for amature identification, along with most of the magic mushrooms, due to the distinct possibility of picking dangerous lookalikes. if you get a lookalike, at best you'll eat nasty mushrooms that do nothing, maybe make you sick, at worst you'll have major issues. i would advise against picking your own shrooms without an experienced mycologist to help you. now the woodloving mushrooms MAY be possible to cultivate outside in ontario, but dont expect more than one harvest, and even thats generous. they probably wouldnt survive the winter. cubes can DEFINITELY and easily be cultivated indoors with a very small financial investment in the necessities. one more species of psychoactive mushroom is very likely present in ontario, and thats the Amanita muscaria or fly agaric. these are the distinctive red mushrooms with white spots that love to be around evergreen trees. they have centuries of history of use, but by most psychedelic enthusiasts are considered second rate at very best. they do NOT produce a psilocybin-like experience, and are (afaik) not consumable in their fresh state, and can even be dangerous. do your reading on this if you want to go for it, anyway. plenty of other mushrooms grow in ontario, just like any other part of the world, at the right time, that is. but the vast majority of them are NOT psychoactive.
I live in Ontario near Toronto man... Can hardly find any in the woods except for Fly Agaric. I heard Big Laughing Gyms and a couple other species grow here though. Good luck!
ok before i start to rant i want everyone to know im fucked up and didnt read entire posts thouroghly just skimmed. now as far as that chart goes i am in central ny which is zone five and i can personally attest to finding subbalteatus throuought the entire state including the fingerlakes region and coast of lake ontario and a few patches in the northern adirondack regions which is zones 4-6 all these were found almost entirely in horse pastures on rotting hay or dung usually in the fall but have found them in spring and summer also with very few growing on fertilized lawns. i have also found psilocybe semilenceata or liberty caps once it was almost a magic experience late october i found them on a sunny day in a sucluded cow pasture near a clear stream while i was trout fishing i notice a few hiding in between blades of grass being familiar with this species by photos and written descriptions only i recognized them but wanted to be certainonce i started looking i picked well over 200 and still left quite a few to continue fruiting i took spore prints and they were dark dark almost purplish which sounded good enough to me now i am not a mycologist but i have enough feild experience and book knowledge to feel confident in my own abilities so i dosed and off 1.5 grams i was propelled into a psychadelics world beyond worlds. the only other mushroom ive personally discovered was fly agaric which is a class of its own. and altho cubes are not native to the habitat im certain that there are a few to be found. mushrooms are by nature very hardy creatures they dont require sunlight to photosynthesize all there energy is derived from dead matter they can grow in chemical wastedumps that are inhospitable to almost all lifeforms and altho certain temps and conditions are required for proper fruiting this doesnt mean they die off completley this can become dormant. spores are one of the reasons for fungus resiliancy they can be frozen to extreme temps and brought to colonize and fruit successfully they are easily disperesed like dust in the wind and often travel with mulch soil manure farm tools from southern places to northern states and are often found in busimessfront landscapes altho i havent found cubes myself there have been accounts ofthem as far north as canada. psilocybin mushrooms are seldom found deep in the woods even the wood loving types for some reason the grow best in disturbed habitats where the land has been overturned or torn up. these are creatures that have eveolved to survive when disaster strikes they will inherit the earth when we kill each other and im sure if you look youll find something. however to the original poster you should stop being ignorant and demanding ppl on the iternet enlighten you to something that takes quite a bit of research to understand thoroghly and can only truly be perfected though experience and if ur askin wat shrooms grow in your area u obviously are newer to this than u thought. now i could go and give you a description of panolis subs and tell you it grows on dung and then let you go looking but i hope you realize the consequence of you actions is potentially worse than a bad trip its a horribly painful and slow (several days in fact) death. now even tho this is wat gives drugs a bad name i dont want you to die and would feel irresponsible providing someone with such a childish attitude towards such a serious subject with the means to go kill themselves.if u want to pick ur own shrooms start readin bitch cuz u got a lot to learn. one must have at least some understanding of mycological proccesses b4 attempting this which u have not represented to me in ur previous posts sorry about the speling and runon sentences n shit peace p.s. if an old hippy told you to murder ppl would u do it im not trying to be an ass just reality checkin u in my opinion from your responses in this post u wouldnt know a psilocybe mushroom if it was growing out of ur twat i only say this so u dont try to die without at least learning more about it first. personally i agree with nesta u should grow ur own at leats till u have a better understanding and if u want to say u know all about shrooms nall that stuff at 17 with the attitude uve presented here im sorry but i just dont believe that youve never picked ur own shrooms b4 correct then u shouldnt even be askin on this forum without first consulting the library of research on the net or books now askin ppl to point u toward the info thats fine but askin them to personally tell u puts them at risk of misinforming u. growing however cant hurt u unless ur retarded an altho its not incredibly easy its not that hard to be successful
