Only YOU can prevent forest fires!

I don't watch much TV anymore, but when I do watch I don't see the Smokey The Bear commercials. We need to spread the word and teach people proper forest fire safety.

 

we dont have forests round here. let alone forest fires.

 

no one time i set our old christmas tree on fire...

but that was inside


our coal fire


and it didnt burn very well


i domnt think i lit it properly

 

Here's the thing. Fires are essential to maintain a healthy forest. If there aren't any forest fires then there is a buildup of brush and whatnot and eventually there will be a fire and it will be really hot and then the fire will actually kill the trees, which normally it woudn't. Also, many tree cones and other seeds only open up when there is a fire. Fires are not a bad thing, they are necessary for forests.

 

only for some forests though....others need the underbrush....but pine forests and others out west really need fires to thrive....smokey did a pretty good job with his campaign though....every person now has big vendettas against forest fires.

 

Yeah, I guess that doesn't apply to all forests. But definitely out here in Oregon and Cali... they are very necessary.

 

I agree 100%, forest fires are absolutely necessary; but only when they occur naturally. accidental fires caused by negligant campers should not be allowed to burn freely. just my opinion

seriously, my guy friends are always lighting eachothers socks on fire in between bong hits. it could be really dangerous.

If you didn't notice, I was joking. I know forest fires are neccessary, but Smokey is really cool .

As long as the fire doesn't burn too hotly (which happens when it hasn't burned in a long time) then the trees do not die in the fire. And forests regrow after fires. I am quite sure that all that deforestation is not due to forest fire, and not much of it at all.

I agree that it is not cool at all when people set forest fires, but in this day and age any kind of fire, natural or otherwise, is considered to be some awful event.

Of course I admit that I wasn't thrilled when Oregon's largest forest fire was burning a mile from my house

 

i heard in england they have smacky the frog instead of smokey the bear. is that true? cause a frog would be so much more awesome.

I never got how forest fires started. It takes me FOREVER to start a fire in the woods for heat/ light
