Liberal here - just wanted to say hi! I found this blog on Google - it was the #1 ranked site for ~hippie forum~ search. No easy task, so it must be good. And from what I've seen so far, it is! My first real "hippie" exposure was in 1967 (when I was ten), my family went camping in Yosemite. From LA, we drove up the 101, passed through SF on the way, drove through Haight-Ashbury, but my parents are religious, right-wing conservatives (my mom married my dad because he looked like Ronald Reagan [yuch!], so to them hippies were a bunch of pigs. Sadly, they missed the whole point. Anyway...when we got to Yosemite, we pulled into our campsite. I was the first one out of the car. As I approached our site's picnic bench, I saw a pair of moccasin boots sitting on top of a white paper pie plate. I walked over, picked the boots up, and on the plate was a message that read, "For any hippie who needs these." The light for me went on. I really got it - my moment of awakening. I still remember that moment like it happened yesterday. Since then, I wear (whenever I can) my moccasin boots - I own two pair. I still consider myself a hippie at heart, and yes, I've done many of the things "real" hippies have done (though I won't go into details). OK, one thing: I did get a senior superlative in high school - "Most Likely to Get Busted." Does that qualify?? I also own and read (almost daily) The Hippie Dictionary by John Bassett McCleary. I have both the original and the Revised and Expanded editions. John, if you're out there, The Hippie Dictionary is (next to Doyles' Sherlock Holmes) my favorite book. Thank you for the work you did in writing it - I love it! So... Keep the peace - save the earth. Remember, it's the only one we have. HRC said it best: "No Way, No How, No McCain!" If I may, check out <thingsfortheenvironmentalist.com> Thanks! Liberal
