Well the smoking ban here in Ohio goes into effect tonight at midnight. I am so aggravated! Yes I know smoking is bad for me. Yes I know secondhand smoke is dangerous. But the "powers that be" behave as though we're lighting up and blowing our smoke at every unsuspecting passerby we see. I can't speak for every smoker (obviously), but I try to be a considerate smoker. I never smoke around kids and if I'm around other people, or out in public, I ask those around me if they mind before I light up. I guess what pisses me off the most about it is how the issue was deliberately made to be extremely confusing for voters. Isse 4 & Issue 5. SmokeFree Ohio and Smokeless Ohio. Those campaigning for this ban purposely confused the issues. I actually had a woman come to my house with a petition FOR the ban, and while I was reading the petition, she asked me if she could get a cigarette from me!
Haha, that woman was probably being paid. My friend is liberal, but she fund raised for G.W.Bush because they paid good. I don't smoke, but I'm against the smoking ban in IL. If the smoke is that bad, you can always leave and eat or shop somewhere else. The conditions in most of IL and Ohio aren't crowded enough to where anyone would really be trapped with someone smoking.
Here in Colorado the young republicans voted to increase the price of cigarettes while banning the use of them in the city limits of Fort Collins! Ain't that a kick in the ass! We think we should make more money (exploit) from you smokers but you can't smoke in the city limits! Bustramp
Well I am glad I dont have to breath it in when some inconsiderate asshole lights up and blows it behind him into your booth while your trying to eat. I think making it a law is stupid but rather should lift the law that stops me from legally beating the shit out of the bastard for doing it and making him eat the stupid butt while still lit.
I'm against smoking bans. What bothers me so much about them is the hypocracy in plain view: CARS give off WAY more lung-damaging pollution than cigarettes, especially when you consider the fact that more people drive than smoke. Also, I can't stand self-important assholes who think they're going to die from walking past a smoker. Secondhand-smoke only kills if you LIVE with the person--no one has ever died from being around them for 30 minutes (unless you have severe asthma or something, but that could just as easily be set off by car pollution).
I just don't understand why Ohio couldn't go the same route as Indiana. They passed a law that said that if a restaurant was gonna have a smoking section, it must be completely enclosed, and have a good ventilation system. That, I understand. Respectful, but not ridiculous.
And this enlightment of information came from what source? People who have never smoked or lived with a smoker but work at a place with smokers who everyday 60 people light up around them and instead of blowing that smoke that they are creating in thier own faces they will turn and blow it away from themselves becuase it bothers thier eyes thus making those who dont smoke have to deal with it. There are just alot of rude people in the world, smokers and non smokers, same as we made laws for being a racist and laws to protect stupid people. People used to ask "Do you mind if I smoke" or "Will the smoke bother you" ect before doing it, now they just dont care what they do to others. I like the whole put them in a bubble idea like New York has done, Virgina I think it was has done, Springfield MO has done. MAke them suck up thier own damn shit. Its funny when your sitting outside that little room and the place is packed. The room they are in is so full of smoke and there is swirls being sucked into the vent system. Smokers will avoid the room due to the smell but the idiots create the smell, lol I have considered fart spray being a great defense for smokers, they puff towards me and I let them have a little blast back.
My husband and I don't even smoke, we don't let our children be around smokers (we take them into another area if someone is smoking) but we are completely against the smoking ban in Ohio. We always chose the nonsmoking sections of restuarants when dining out and we never had any problems. I think it's ridiculous to ban smoking in public places, a personal invasion on an individual's rights.
I am against it to, and i voted against it however we have had a smoking ban here in Columbus for maybe 2 years now, and it does have its good points the bars aren't saturated with smoke, and you don't have to immediately wash all of the clothes you wore that night plus, i do smoke when i drink (etc) and it makes me smoke a lot less, plus you sort of strike up converstaions with other people outside but...totally against the govt forcing something like that, i think it should be up to the business owner plus anti-smoking nazis get on my nerves in a big way
Just a quick update. The ban has been temporarily put on hold pending the outcome of a lawsuit. Most restaurant/bar owners are continuing to abide by the ban. I suppose it's simply easier for them that way.
ever thought about the waitress/bingo caller/bartender? What if they don't smoke but still have to work in all that cigarette haze? I smoked for several years, both at home and while in Ohio. We've had the smoking ban here for many years now. You get used to it.
i personally hate cig smoke but i think a ban should be done per business, not by any government. There is a market for both places that do and dont allow it.
Here in California the bans have been effect for years. And life has gone on. I still resent them. Not because I am a smoker, but because they were the first steps in compromising individual civil rights. I am still amazed at how an industry, tobacco which helped found the US, is now seen as almost subversive. Tobacco monied interests used to control Washington, what happenned? What lead to the coup? Those are answers I've never been able to uncover. Now the American public's private behavior is being legislated it seems by the insurance companies that hope to maximize their dividends by controlling what they see as risky behavior. Where will end? And I still feel it's not the tobacco that is at fault for cancer linkage, but the chemicals added in the processing of cigarettes. Why wasn't that focussed on? Instead the cigarette manufacturers still continue to add their chemicals. And it's the act of smoking that has become the dreaded curse on mankind.
i think there should be an understanding that if the government takes these kinds of freedoms away they are no longer allowed to call this a free country, It’s so horribly hypocritical I can’t stand it
tisk tisk tisk it's okay if you want to smoke and everything that goes with it, though it's not very nice to mother earth, but keep it away from me. How about all of us people who have to make a living in these places that allow smoking, and we choose not too. Yes I can go to college, and I am, to find a better job, but I don't like polluting my lungs in the meanwhile. So now it's our problem you want to smoke inside, when YOU choose the habit. I use to smoke. I was addicted. I understand it sucks to go outside. But you choose your life style. Not need to force it on the rest of us. I 100% support smoking bans Though they should legalize the green and yes make pot smokers go outside unless it's a pot smoking club
p.s. I think it's just selfish to let other people hurt for your habit. You probably need the fresh air if your smoking anyways
Less an less people smoke anyway. Before the Jerzee ban, could hardly notice people smoking in restaurants. It seemed that smokers segregated themselves. Some places were realy smoky, blue air. where smokers congregated. Other places had almost no smoke. Individulas had it worked out. The ban came anyway. Politicians love the easy symbolic shit anyway. :troll:
