Good god no remake. You know they made The Shining? Boy did it suck... it was stephen kings original, and involved things like statues coming alive. Kubrick is the only reason that movie was good.
It's a fine film. It's not among my favorite Nicholson performances from that time, which says a lot about how great he was (or is).
Book's a million times better, but the film is still great. Would have loved to have the film done from Chief's perspective though.
I also disagree about a remake. Remakes usually suck. Cage isn't as bad as some people make him out to be, but he's not that great either. He's already doing a remake of Bad Lieutenant with Herzog in the directors seat, which is pretty stupid.
There's a 90s mini-series of The Shining as well that, I think, King approved. Plus I heard stuff about a Hollywood remake, too with Jeffrey Wright as Halloran.
He's not horrible, he's kinda wooden. I liked him a lot in "Leaving Las Vegas". Timothy Olyphant is taking a similar route with his performances, it seems..
