1967 - " Welcome to the exciting new sound of Radio One"
    — Tony Blackburn
The UK's first National pop radio station,

    .
BBC Radio 1 was launched in the UK to take over from the very successful Pirate radio stations; who operated in the main from ships broadcasting near to the 'three mile limi't - in order to evade the Coastguard, - as they defied Government. licensing laws

For those of a certain age, this will bring back memories - either of the day itself, the Pirate Radio Stations -- that surfed the waves against the nasty Goverment , trying to stop us kids kistening to "some proper music".and/or of the 'time that were indeed actiually changing'
Have you any memorries of those times?
    Feel free to post such"

    Beginning with ...
Former Pirate DJ Tony Blackburn, from Radio Caroline, was the first presenter on air, with The Move's "Flowers In The Rain" the first record to be played on 30 September 1967 at 7.00am, (with Robin Scott, then Controller Radio 1, standing over him!).

It is already in there Vlad (you want to check it out).
'This' moment in time was specific and significant to the U.K. and its culture for the generation of youth - which is why I posted it in the U.K. section
