On The Brink Of Genetic Manipulations

Are you for it? To be able to manipulate your child's eye color, hair color, etc with genetic manipulations before the baby is born?
I would never be....that takes the spark of magic out of the random variables, imo...and I Robot by Ray Bradbury seems to be on the brink of becomming a reality.....I guess.....world is turning into a very cold strange place......

almost factory like....in every way....imo.

Man wants to be "god" i guess.....

i think it would be cool if we could tweak the genetic code to give people superhuman traits like superior intelligence but then it wouldn't really be your child would it? we that already exist would be inferior beings

 

Superior only in some ways......the cold way....but where is the heart and soul in that?
can you genetically manipulate a poet's heart?.....a great artist? musician, mathematician, etc?
In some ways, even though were are all inferially the same, we are also all different in some ways...that is what makes life so wonderful, too.....

 

i am so against it. have we not learned yet what happens when we mess with nature. and it would be within in human nature to use this for the wrong reason. i find this to be similar to hitler's belief of the pure aryan race. not forgetting this is mass narcism in another form. but how ever if genetic manipulation can be used to cure illness and disease then thats something i would support.

I foresee this going horribly wrong. The unintended consequences could be huge.

 

We already do stuff that in my mind seems about just as unnatural, such as cosmetic surgery, arranged marriages and selective breeding cats and dogs. So there is nothing about this idea that inherently shocks me, however there could be some potential issues with ethics and the political aspects of it and what not.

With the sci fi talk I may be kind of influenced but it may be possible that working not only with aspects of vanity but also stuff like intelligence, which ace_k alluded too, muscle reflexes, etc. may prompt mutations which 'force' the issue with evolution.

I'd much prefer to see that then like robots and artificial intelligence, if I had to choose.
