I am going to turn an old front loading washing machine into a cement mixer.

Sometimes I think my old front loader is a cement mixer, judging by the noise.

The washing machine's motor will probably not have enough horse power to mix much cement.

Its my guess that you might one or two loads before you tear up the berings . You could use the parts and make it stronger with a bigger motor and heaver berings , or just buy a cheap mixer . This sounds like Red Green with "duct tape " desert rat

Front loader at least has a chance because a top loader would never support the weight of the cement.

It still won’t work but at least there’s a slight chance it may before the cement clogs up the innards :2thumbsup:

^^ this and desert rat's post . Better stick to very small batches at least . I think Sooner or later it's going to gunk up .And destroy the bearings like rat said . Or blow the motor overloads .As it's going to be hard to clean out all the old wet concrete . But hey what the hell do I know ? Good luck with it .

I think you would be far better off buying one , they do save labor .

I think the belt is going to slip long before it blows the motor... Cement mixers are usually gear driven, not belt driven.

You'd be better off building one from scratch. It would be a lot of work to get it into any decent shape in order to mix more than one batch.

But I'm assuming it's more of a "Hmmm what could I make this old washer do?" than a "I need a cement mixer" type of job. In that case: have fun!

I heard BA Baracus has some great tips on how to turn it into a missile launcher instead.

I think you could wash cloths in a front loader , if you dont use it to mix cement . I would think a 55 gal barrel cut in half with some heavy berrings , a gear box and motor would work better for cement . desert rat

ha, when someone says front loader, the first thing i think of is one of those tractors with a scoop on the front of it. of course when i hear the terms front loader and top loader in the same context, then i think washing machine, or freezer.

sounds like a rather challanging project. if its what you have and what you need and there aren't other resources that would be easier or work better, well i wish you luck with it then.
