I never realized how interesting these creatures are until I learned about Paul the octopus who was a captive octopus that correctly predicted who would win 7 of Germany's world cup matches right in 2010 as well as the world cup finals winner, Paul the octopus recently died and this is how I learned about him. I decided to look into octopus some more and learned some other interesting facts. I learned that they are the only invertebrate given anasthesia when being operated on and if I understood it correctly alot of their 'thinking' is not localized in the brain but spread out from their 'brain' through their arms. They are one of the few (possibly only) invertebrates that use tools and can manipulate objects. Some people keep them as pets apparently but they can often escape as they can squeeze through tight spaces since they lack a skeleton and can also move objects many times their weight. Apparently they have beaks too. Its thought that octopus pretty much learn everything on their own as both parent octopus pretty much have it genetically programmed in themselves to expire shortly after they reproduce. The parents also starve themselves in this time period so they tend to have very short life spans of only a few years at maximum. This expiration mechanism can be removed in captivity giving them a slightly longer lifespan. Interesting creatures.
Paul did get two predictions wrong. That is comparable to getting dealt a straight in five card draw (which has happened to me)

When I think of octopus, I think of the giant ones that attack fishing boats and submarines and pull them to their doom but these are probably just mythical creatures, although they are known to fight sperm whales.
