I truly think that Obscured By Clouds, by Pink floyd, is one of the most underrated albums... I mean, I'm so sick of all these people saying that it's like a "dirty spot between Meddle and Dark Side Of The Moon", that the band was just "getting ready for the great next album" and such... I mean, it's a great album! I personally think it's exellent... don't you?
yes, all pink floyd is amazing, they can stir up so many emotions no matter what your state of mind...
I've not read any reviews on it Penny. tho' I've checked it out from time to time since it was released and it has never really registered with me maybe it has been obscured by clouds or by itself ? Aviator
Penny, I for one have been praising this album for years. Its a gem that really didnt get any due respect, and thats probably why I like it so much. I know there are a few people here, which includes Matty, who think the album is uneventful. But I beg to differ. This album is nothing like any other album they had done..... its so laid back and mellow (not spacey and weird like all the other albums). I would definitely say its in my top 5 pink floyd albums. Some of the greatest melodies are on here, personally, I would say "Wuts Uh the Deal" is the best one.
its weird too, that even Nick Mason and Storm Thorgeson claim it as their favourite Floyd album as well.
it's a nice album, but i don't think it's underrated. 'A Saucerful of Secrets' is THE underrated Pink Floyd album.
great album! it was "The Gold Is In The ..." that got me into Pink Floyd! and 'the Gnome' btw....but that's off topic*l*
there are quite a few underrated pink floyd albums. Animals and The Final Cut come quickly to mind, besides Obscured By Clouds, of course.
Somebody agrees with me. Some of their greatest performances came from this album, the harmonic emotion of "Burning Bridges", the hard-rock jumpiness of "The Gold Is In The...", the sheer Floyd folkiness of "Wots...Uh The Deal". This album contains some of the greatest instrumentation you could want from a Floyd album. And it's definitely an album that I bring with me on road trips.
Sorry to disagree with you Laety but i dont really think its overrated. I actually hear about most people liking it, not disliking it. But I never enjoyed it a whole lot. maybe because its more of just a straight rock album than innovtive music like their other early albums. I just could never really get into it.
I agree with Ed and am going to have to disagree with the majority of people who responded so far. I think OBC is a rather bland album, so I can see how some critics look down upon it, especially when compared to their previous works. The album is really just a bunch of uneventful and straightforward folk-rock songs, and I don't think they're very good songs (with the exception of maybe 2 songs), even by folk-rock standards. The music just seems really uninspired and boring, and the lyrics are pretty bad as well. The production is really shotty also, probably the worst production of all their albums. I feel the same way about Meddle in some ways. If it wasn't for 'One of These Days' and 'Echoes,' I don't think it would be getting half the praise it receives. Because, let's admit, with the exception of the two aforementioned songs, the album is pretty much a snoozer. Just my 2 cents.
sorry, matty, but I would have to disagree with you on Meddle. Fearless is probably one of the best songs in the whole pink floyd catalogue, and you cannot deny that.
While it's not my favorite Pink Floyd album (Animals has this honor), I still think it's a great album. I find Obscured By Clouds and More to be both underrated. This might (in part) be because they're soundtracks.
Well, I'm not saying it's their best album either, but I truly think it deserves more credit... just like A Saucerful Of Secrets and More... My favorite has to be Animals too, Nick Anyways, I'm pretty glad to hear that I'm not the only one who thinks it's underrated - I thought I was for years, and I felt like a weirdo for that (not that it matters to me to be different )
lol madcrappie it's great how you call Matt "Matty"! It makes me laugh But I would never dare call Matt like that (maybe too much respect?)
Im not trying to be disrespectful in any way shape or form. I usually like to add y to anyone with a one syllable name, Im not sure why I do that. Plus, I really like to see Matthew get his pants all up in a bunch when you call him by a name he really doesnt like.
hehe so if I tell you my name is Laety, what are you going to name me? I'd like to be named something unique!
I agree with the saucerful of secrets thing. I actually listened to it about a week ago, just for the hell of it. It must have been the first time listening to the band in a pretty long time. Maybe about a year and a half or so. and i still enjyo the album quite a bit.
The most underrated floyd album by far is The Final Cut, it is basicly songs that did not make The Wall, yet, it is completely unique in its own way... wonderful listen, it's a different side of Pink Floyd.
