Good Grief! Every time O-Bozo opens his mouth, with no prepared speech and no teleprompter, he blathers and stutters his way into yet another mindless blunder. 'Cuz see? It goes a lot deeper than just him saying that about a certain group of people that he feels are inferior to himself ~ it tells us that he DOES, indeed, feel SUPERIOR ~ to them, and to us, in all probability. Also, what kind of "Great Orator" doesn't give at least a moments consideration to what s/he's about to say?!? If your only defense for him boils down to 'we all make mistakes'? Save it, please.
^^^^ You have two George Carlin Quotes in your sig, yet you can't take a joke about the special olympics? Who hasn't made a special olympics joke...c'mon...
Actually, i never have. By the time Special Olympics was started, most folks had been made aware of their insensitivity, and most of the Special Peeps are "children" their whole lives. i can guarantee you that i would never dream of hurting the feelings of a child.
I'm not saying I go around laughing at mentally disabled children. I'm saying that the difference between the two events (the Olympics and the special Olympics that is) is so night and day, nobody can go from watching a professional athlete run the 100meter in record time, then watch the same even in the special Olympics without at least having a bit of "uncomfortable-inappropriate-chuckle-time". If only because of how different these two events are, the fact that they title it the Olympics makes people think of the best of the best, and when that may be true for the contestants with mental disabilities the connection is still made in your mind "Olympics = Amazing Athletes". Your vision is then met with quite the opposite when watching the special Olympics, not in a malevolent way, but in the way that its not what you expected, even if you know full well its not the same.
