personally, I love it. I've been using it for 1 year and 5 months. Not only has it made my periods a whole hell of alot lighter it's also helped control my horrid cramps..well between that and surgery..but either way I'm no longer a mega bitch :)

I went on it last April, and am now going to switch back to a pill after this cycle.

Pros -- don't have to remember to take it every day; it has a really low level of systemic hormones, which is good if you get a lot of side effects from the pill; everyone else that I've talked to who has used it LOVES it.

Cons -- it tends to cause an increase in discharge, which is why I'm switching -- I don't know if what I've had is normal or more than what most people experience, but I got tired of ALWAYS being REALLY wet down there, to the point that it's causing irritation; also, I don't know if anyone else who uses it experiences this, but when I bear down to poop, it pokes out enough that I worry that it could fall out, so I pretty much just take it out before doing any "business", which is kind of annoying.

Maybe you should get more fiber in your diet...I don't think you're supposed to have to bear down to poop.

As for those side effects, did you notice anything about your weight? I'm on the pill now and am convinced that it has contributed to some of my weight gain, or ability to loose weight...just wondering if you noticed a difference switching from the pill to the ring.

So, um, you just sit on the toilet and it all just plops out? Maybe "bear down" has a stronger connotation for you, but I'm not exactly sure of the proper term for what muscle contractions (or whatever causes the sphincter to release) one performs to shit, not being a med student and all. I have squeezed it (the nuvaring) out before while mastubating in certain positions, and if I'm just bloated a part of it pokes out -- so I don't know whether my vagina is smaller than average or if this is just something that most women using nuvaring don't talk about. There's no need for you to be rude.

I can't blame any weight gain on the pill (I gained weight, but I blame that on a change in diet and exercise habits which coincided with going on that pill) before I went on nuvaring, and didn't notice any difference with the switch.

I apologize, I didn't mean to be offensive, I forget that tone doesn't carry well over the internet, really, I made that comment with a light heart.

Thanks for the info on the weight thing... very good to know.

I heard about 3 cases of women dying from blood clots from the nuvaring and they didn't smoke. I didn't directly know them, but i knew them through people. They did everything they were told to do while on it. be careful and educate yourself!
