When making compost with stems or any other organic material let it break down completely first before mixing it with your soil. Dont just stick stems in your soil as they will rot possible giving your roots problems.
The basic idea of using stems as part of your compost mixture sounds reasonable. Sorry if you new this already dont want to sound condisending.

"think on the positive side of things" i have alot of experience with growing other plants just not weed. my grandpa is a botnist and ive worked with him for the past 5 years so i know the basics of growing most plants.

Sure your knowledge of other plants will give you an excellent start.. Like you say a lot of plants follow the same rules. Give them plenty of the right sort of light (same as all plants) keep temp around 78f and relative humidity around 50%. I'm Sure as a very basic rule if you treated them similar to tomato plants you wouldn't go far wrong. Though I'll probably get linched for saying that. Weed plants are light lovers the more the better obviously the more light you give them the more co2 , and nutrients they will need. With weed sometimes there is a tendency to overcomplacate things. I'd say most growing problems are caused by excess i.e overfertilising excesive heat, overwatering etc. They grew for who knows how many years without our help.
Its 1.00 am and I'm starting to ramble.
    Good luck with your Botany.

exactly it is called weed for a reason because it will grow like a weed.(you probably wont get very potant stuff by growing it like a weed) but the biggest mistake is they pay too much attenion to their plants. sometimes somethings are best left untouched. i mean yes you do need to water you plants and what not but like i said before its called weed for a reason

Sorry I went off on ya, I just get annoyed when people call it A weed, instead of weed.
Btw, marijuana does not "grow pretty easy". It doesn't grow wild in Indiana or anywhere else. What you are referring to is hemp, a cousin of marijuana.

    Wait a minute!
Hemp is not the cousin of MJ, hemp basically is MJ.
The only difference is that MJ is strictly females left un-pollenized.
    That's the only difference.
Take that wild growing hemp, pick out the females and let them grow on their own without geting pollenized and you'll have yourself some pot.
Maybe not the best strain but pot never the less.

Yeah, you may just have to repeat that cycle of not pollinating about a thousand times until you get decent pot haha
