Just wondering how many folks here are part of “official” nudist organizations or clubs? For most of my adult life, I’ve been a situational naturist, taking advantage of secluded settings to enjoy nakedness. To a large extent that’s still true. But over the last couple of years, I’ve begun to see the importance of nudist advocacy groups and recognize their role in helping promote and protect nudist rights. To that end, I became a member of the American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR) last year and just renewed my membership. Not so much for the discounts and benefits but because of what I feel is a shared value system. Came across a posting on a social media site the other day that said it takes courage to be a nudist … takes courage to put yourself out there and say that you don’t really care what other people think of your preference to be naked, Really struck home. I perhaps still struggle with this a tiny bit … oh. what if work found out I’m a nudist or what if certain family members found out I’m a nudist. I just need to work on getting past that, need to work on not worrying about other folks’ personal hang-ups about nudity. To that extent, I think being part of an organization of like-minded people is very helpful.
My wife and I have been members of The Naturist Society for a number of years. The discounts we received at Club Orient in St. Martin more than paid for our membership dues over the years. But as important, the group promotes and protects nudist rights.
I used to belong to a non-landed group. They would sponsor a nude swim two times a month during the winter months ( Oct to early March ) They had a contract with a Hotel that had a enclosed swimming pool and locker rooms In its own building behind the Hotel. At first they rented both locker rooms - Men's and women's , and after a while decided to only use one locker room for both men and women to save money. Only one or two people objected. And it had to do more with a shared bathroom then with a shared locker room. This was a family friendly group. And there was always children there with their parents But over time the group slowly started to lose members and ended up stopping the winter swims because they were bringing in enough money to pay for the costs of using the pool . It was kind of sad to see it have to stop.
Growing up in the 70s mom had a membership to a resort and probably the N.S. I remember getting the magazine. Both quickly faded away. We just continued at home and a nudist beach. I am still a nudist at home no resorts or memberships. Sad how its faded away and not became the norm.
Since starting this thread in 2021, I have also become a member of The Naturist Society. While the AANR is much larger and has more political clout in terms of having the resources to be able to defend and promote nude recreation, I am finding that The Naturist Society more closely aligns with what I am doing. I like to get out there in nature and be on the move while naked. The social aspect of it is secondary. Not really into traditional land-based clubs so much.
Our local resort changed from a nice family facility into a...... well more like a swinger's club. They soon lost the families and then had money issues and then the owner sold. We were and I am a quiet person. I very much dislike parties' crowds and prefer nature.
I know someone who is a prominent member of AANR. I haven't joined. There are a lot of smaller groups in the US and a number of large groups in Europe. I actually started my own nudist social network last year. We're at Nudist Nation. We are open to all types of people and are friendly towards family nudism content. We have members from around a dozen countries.
